Hey everyone,
Im going to be recovering my dash in the next few weeks and I bought dark grey fabric to recover the dash with but the color is off by a few shades. I am going to buy this vinyl die and see if I can make it a little darker on a test spot to try and get the best match but I was wondering if anyone else has done a similar project and has the best product or advice for this project. Unfortunately this was the closest color I can find to the OEM dark grey and I just can't deal with the cracked dash anymore lol. I am also WAYYYYYY too anal to have this miss matched colored interior, so that just can't happen. The pattern/texture on the vinyl is off by a little bit but I will deal with that.
Heres the swatch to show you the color difference.
My options are:
1.-die the new vinyl and it magically has a perfect color match
2.-use a method that someone else has had with success thats easier lol
3.-Get the molded dash cover but IMO it looks a little ghetto
4.-die the front door panels and other front dark grey pieces so that they all match
I had been pretty lucky in the fact that my dash hadn't cracked until April or June of 2012, so I hoped I wouldn't ever have to do this project lol. My dash isn't as bad as some of the other pictures I have seen but it makes my truck look like a giant turd when your inside of it
*****Notes for anyone else that does this project: The passenger airbag is on the top portion of the passenger side of the dash. When i make a write up of how to do this project, I will show you how to "score" the underside of the vinyl around the airbag to ensure the airbag will deploy correctly in the unfortunate even of an accident. Just beware that this issue needs to be addressed if you try to do a similar fix.******
