FWIW, they also make a glossifier product that you apply on top of the basic plastidip product that will add more and more gloss with each coat. It allows you to go from matte to satin to gloss depending on # coats. It would allow you to choose just how much gloss you want (high gloss would mean dirt sticks a bit less, but then you also have more sun/reflection)
$500 for the hood !!! I paid $100 for the hood to be wrapped, I bought the 3M vinyl for ?? Hell I forgot how much I paid. Mike
$200 to get mine wrapped. I am in the Bay Area, so things are a little more expensive here. My installer did an excellent job and took all of half an hour. He told me after a couple days it would "set" (I forget the actual term he used) but that I could wash it just like I wash a painted piece and that it was very durable. Pretty cheap upgrade compared to paint and if I ever want to make it pink or gold it's simple.

I've had the matte grey 3M 1080 vinyl (which matches Toyota's Mag Grey PERFECTLY) on my hood for about a year now and it has help up incredibly well. No problems with heat or anything. I wrapped it myself with my fiance's help, it took a couple hours, lots of cuss words, a couple Red Bulls, and patience, but it came out perfect. I am actually thinking of ripping it off here next month and re-doing it in matte black for a change. According to the 3M rep I spoke to originally, after a couple years it will become exponentially more difficult to remove. Think a stubborn sticker that comes off in pieces rather than one nice sheet. That is what will happen to the vinyl. As Harper mentioned, the vinyl itself should be good for upwards of 6 years, but be prepared to get your scrape on if you want to remove it after that long.

I did my hood too but used a standard 3M, which is recommended for 3-4 years use. I believe it depends on sun exposure. The 3M 1080 is slated for around 10 years? Mine is approaching the 3 year mark in about 6 months or so. I'll probably take it off next year and put on a 3M 1080.
It's not a hard DIY since all you need is heat gun to undo your mistakes. it's very forgiving. But definitely a 2 man job. I did this one and it was the first time using vinyl.

Hey how did you manage to get the wrap done in one piece? After several attempts I ended up having to seam it which I'm not thrilled about. I only did the center portion but every damn time I would end up with slack without any way to flatten it or push it out. This is my final result. I wouldn't mind re-doing it again to get it done in one solid piece but I don't want to waste my time until I figure out what I need to be doing differently. The contours of the hood scoop were causing massive annoyances. I also wrapped it with the scoop insert taken out first which I think is the way to go. Any help would be appreciated !

Hi guys i'm looking to buy some vinyl right now so when I get home from vacation I can do my hood and try to get a little protection for it.
I however am out of town and can't measure my 5th gens hood.
What size vinyl did you order intending to just to the hood? I was thinking a 5ftx5ft should get the ob done but I wanted to be sure.
Any pointers would be helpful. you can get pretty much any length by 5ft.

5'x6' will get it done Amazon Vivid style (i think) says hood , roof etc !
I had a digital camo on my ‘16 for about a year and a half.. gloss 3M . Took it off cause it was showing water spots bad. When I took it off, it seemed to be “thin” in a couple of spots, and even cracked. Vehicle is left in the Hawaii sun.
There was actually one spot where the cracked vinyl looked “lighter”. Someone said possibly some water dripped in and kinda baked from the sun.
I decided to replace with PPF. More expensive, but 10 year warranty on bubbling and yellowing. I can and may wrap over that, but not super important right now...
