Vinyl wrapping fender flares?

Did some searching but couldn't find anything detailed.

I'd like to vinyl wrap or paint my fender flares.

I approached a local vinyl shop and the owner told me it was a complicated and time consuming job and quoted me a price far higher than i expected (almost double my quote to paint them).

So my questions are the following:

1. Is vinyl wrapping the fender flares actually a difficult job?

2. For those that have paid someone to do it, what did it cost?

3. Does wrapping the flares require that the flares be removed to do it?

Looks good! That's an option i may consider if i cant find a wrap shop or paint shop that will do it relatively cheaply.

I haven't actually done it, but I was quoted $660 to wrap all the fenders as well as the front and rear bumper valences.

Seemed pretty high to me.

If you want them to stay that way (Plastidip will be an ongoing maintenance project, but can be removed completely) here is another option...

Rustoleum spray on Bedliner- I sprayed my center front bumper with it. If you lightly sand and scuff the paint on the fender flares this bedliner holds up really really well on the plastic. I was behind a salt truck a few days ago and got slammed with salt ROCKS- chipped my windshield and my hood before I could get around the bastard. My front bumper came through perfect with regards to the bedliner. The factory painted sections took a beating, lol.

It'll be easier to remove the flares, but if you tape properly you can do it on the truck, and you can remove the tape easily and cleanly after the paint dries- unlike plastidip. Total cost probably $30.

For how much I got 12ftx5ft (a little extra in case I messed up), the heat gun, and a squeegee I spent around $150. Looks awesome and will hold up longer than plasti dip. I'm toying with the idea of wrapping the fender flares.

Ask help from the veteran installers, why not visit gatorwraps.com and request for a quote. I believe they have installers for vinyl wrap in all major cities.

Man do you work for them? You reply to all the old vinyl threads with the exact same response. Getting old.

The guy originally wanted to remove the flares for a better wrap but when he proceeded to remove the first flare, decided not to because he wasn't sure if the flare had permanent clips that were part of the flare itself that would break. So being a brand new truck he didn't want to risk it. Can anyone verify this? Or are the clips replaceable?

Yes the clips are replaceable but they are pricey for what they are used for.

Has anyone just bought new unpainted fender flares from Toyota? I would presume that would be more durable and come in a matte Black un painted finish? Does anyone know the cost of this? Do new clips etc need to be purchased?

My advice is to get a bid from another shop. I paid $350 for a hood wrap, all fender flares, the roof rails, and the grill bar below the sombrero. I've seen better jobs around the hood scoop but all in all they did a good job.

The clips are replaceable. There's two types. I've got the part numbers somewhere.... There's blue ones and orange ones.

The problem is the back of the fender flare itself; the part that receives the clips. They want to break off from the fender flare, no matter how carefully you remove them. My friend who is a body shop manager tells me that it's not unusual for a shop to epoxy these broken pieces back on to the back of the flare... which is what I did on a number of them. Not ideal.

Holy Sh*tballs! $350 for the flares??? I wrapped my whole rig by myself (never wrapped anything before) for $350 in vinyl lol. The flares aren't hard to do, clips are replaceable, but don't go through toyota, the clips are expensive, you can buy like 100 from ebay for like 5 from toyota. Hardest part for me was getting the clips out of the body.
