Vinyl Wraps/ Decal Interest?

I'm thinking about putting a vinyl decal on the sides of my truck(BTW would that look stupid?) and my uncle knows a local guy with a sign/vinyl/graphic shop so he could give us a cheap hookup on vinyl decals for our 4th gens once I get a quote. I have no idea what the pricing would be, or if this would be group-buy worthy or not, just throwing this out there to see if there is any interest. Not sure if there is much of a market for preset designs; some of you guys might prefer to go to your own local shop and have something made suited to your own style? If we made large wraps, you might need expert installation anyway? Not sure how difficult it is to apply these?

Lots of questions maybe some of you have answers for.

I'm thinking something starting from the front doors and stretching back like this first Tacoma:

A guy did an american flag on the back piece between the rear and side window.. black and white.. i thought came out great.

Ive wanted to do something like the 1st pic for a while but there isnt anything for the 4th gen. Might be interested depending on what you and your vinyl guy come up with. Either that or make a kit for the Ivan Stewart retro stripes (yellow orange and red). Theres a guy on the tacoma page who sells some retro stripe kits already.

My understanding is vinyl is pretty simple. get your design, wipe area's down with cleaner, then put on the vinyl. A heat gun helps it lay down and wrap around everything as well. Once done with it, just pull it off. Heat gun helps here too.
 
BRO.... If you can get a quote for us on a precut pattern and maybe piece together some.designs I'm game. I want to wrap mine, but a big ass vinyl decal would be sweet. I actually work at a sign shop with a vinyl decal department.....[emoji848] I'm going to pitch this same.idea lol and see what boss man says
 
There are tons of places that do wraps, the most expensive part is the time to make the custom artwork. I know that the local guys will do a whole car wrap in a single color for fairly reasonable, but when you get to artwork and graphics it gets pricey.

I have been in contact with the company that did the printing for this wrap. The wife of the driver does vinyl and would help me apply it for next to nothing...

That being said, if I front the design, printing and material cost, I am still looking at $500 bucks or so...

Hey there! I am a vinyl installer myself and have my 5th gen fully wrapped(i have a couple threads on here with pics) and I put large decals on like those all the time. If you have a friend or know someone that will professionally install them for a good price, then its a no brainer, have it done professionally. Sure, you could install it yourself, but the chances of you not laying it correctly or even ruining the decal are are very high. Those large decals take some experience to put on and would be very challenging to someone who's never applied a decal that large. Its a whole different ballgame compared to your average 2" window decal.. Feel free to message me any ?s about the process, I will gladly help out!

100% true. I'm a total amateur and thought it would be fun to wrap my 4th gen hood in black matte. It went horribly. a) probably don't start with the hood and b) applying that stuff takes SKILL. Be prepared to mess up a lot!

Actually the hood is one of the easiest panels to start with. Mostly a flat surface, few curves. Make sure the vinyl you are using is wrapping vinyl. Trying to wrap with regular vinyl is nearly impossible unless you have some serious skills.

Once you understand the durability of wrapping vinyl and how often you can pull it back and re-lay it and how far you can truly stretch it and reshape it with heat, it is fairly easy to work with. It's the bumpers and areas with multiple compound curves that will make you tear your hair out.
I wrapped my ES350 and small pieces like the rear spoiler and rear chrome trim piece took 1 to 2 hours each to wrap.
