violant shaking

shaking has gotten really bad..

you can feel it a little @ 40 then when you enter 60-65 it shakes a lot!

i have already inspected the rotors and even replaced the 2 front shocks on the car...

is this a possible wheel bearing problem?..can also hear a grinding when reversing..

shakes feel like they are coming from the front passenger side..

please help..

You have a tire out of balance. Take it to a tire shop and get a balance and rotation service.

This sounds like the most likely issue - switch the tire to the other side and you'll probably find the shaking happening on the driver's side.

The grinding is another issue, does it emanate from the same place as your shake?

this was the first thing i did before i decided to switch out the shocks...

yea..well, the reason i say this is because my brothers subaru made a similar noise when his rear bearings went out..infamous on subarus..

the real grind comes when im reversing and when i come to a stop..other then that its a honing hum noise then the shake starts at 60..

the grinding may be the drive shafts- the shaking could either be a balance issue or a wheel bearing- I had one go bad, by bad i mean only had a little play in it, no leaking or anything like that. It shook the @#$)# out of the truck once I got above 50mph pop your tires off and check them

you can check them without taking the tire off, jack the tire up grab it at 12 and 6 and shake it back in forth, if you feel play swap them, i can't give you the number off the top of my head but the tolerance for that part s pretty small.

Are you saying there are no front wheel bearings?

There definitely are front wheel bearings. They are sealed unit bearings, and while they are pretty durable, they can go bad.

OP, trying to diagnose problems such as these over the 'net is hit and miss. I'd suggest finding a Tech that specializes in NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) issues, to try and pinpoint the problem.

yeah sorry that post was confusing, yes there are bearings in the front (why would i tell him how to check them if i thought they were not there, haha)

and the whole thing about grabbing the tire works, give it a shot, if you feel a little play then take it into a les schwab and have them double check it for free....

i still think this is a drive line issue as the sound is being omitted from the truck with a shift in momentum as opposed to sound being omitted with rotational speed which is what you would expect of a bearing going bad, that at certain rpm's it will make a noise and at others it wont, but when reversing your not really going fast enough to make those guys sing,or even grind very loud unless it's about to explode from it's cage.

either way i'd check them both and grease up the drive line anways as most likely it needs to be done.
