Viper 5902: any way to retain settings after battery disconnect?

I've had a Viper 5902 for about 6 months now, with the remote start and some additional sensors, and battery backup. A couple of months ago, the battery was changed out, and in the process of disconnecting it for a couple of days, the keyless remote start data was lost and had to be reprogrammed in.

I'm going to have to disconnect the battery to install some HID headlights and additional driving lights, do any of you have any experience with maintaining the memory despite the battery being disconnected? I'm not sure if something like this: Amazon.com: E-Z RED (EZRMS4000) Super Automotive Presets and Computer Memory Saver: Home Improvement
would work?

I talked to my installer (Stereotomy in Issaquah, WA--great guys BTW), and he said he wasn't sure if there was a way to retain the memory (maybe a quick disconnect, for sev. seconds, might not affect the memory he thought)...

Wondering if anyone else has had any experiences with this?

how long was your batery dead? i have vipers in both of my cars i have disconected the batery for days at a time and kept the settings, all dei products shoud retain memory when powered down, in fact i sometimes pull them from cars for customers and dont have to reprogram anything when i install into the new vehicle.

do your systems have remote start, and if so, do you have to leave a key in the transponder anti theft bypass module? I think this is the module that needs the reprogram when I disconnect the battery.

I think my battery was dead for several days, not an extended period of time (and it wasn't ever completely dead, just not enough juice to start the car), and I was very surprised that I lost remote start capability...
