Viper Alarm

I've been kicking around the idea of getting rid of my Viper alarm and going back to the factory keyless entry. The PO had it installed and i don't know anything about it. I found a siren under the hood, but this thing makes no noise. It does however unlock/lock the doors, flash lights, and the remote start works. Basically I don't necessarily have a problem with it. I just like the "cleanliness" of the factory equipment, and I would like to get rid of the wiring mess under the dash.
Question is, has anyone ever reversed this or installed one and can give me some tips on switching back? I have the factory fobs, tried them and they don't work, so I'm guessing the factory module have been bypassed. Also, I live in a cold winter climate but I don't see myself using the remote start very often.

I'm confused........You live in the same crappy, if not worse weather than me and you WON'T use it?? Anyways, it's just a pain in the ass to reverse the wiring that was done. Just labor intensive. I would personally have a shop do it. Usually takes 1-2 hrs. Including programming the factory key fob.

I live in the same weather as you...DO NOT GET RID OF IT! I've used it 5 or 6 times already this season. It won't be worth the money to have someone in-install it. Plus, you can use it in the summer to get the truck nice and cool when it's 95* outside!

Is it a newer viper? Why not just have it re-installed in a much cleaner fashion. Factory alarms aren't anything out of this world and having remote start makes life so much easier. Why would you NOT want to use remote start?

I have never had remote start before and I'm ok! I just think I will forget most of the time. But honestly, if I took the time to clean it up I'd feel better. I'm not sure of the model, I could look at it closer tomorrow and figure it out though. I don't like to pay people to work on stuff if I can figure it out on my own. I have to troubleshoot electrical circuits for a living, so it wouldn't be anything out of the realm of possibilities. Do you guys have Viper systems? Is the chirp and siren sounds in programming or could the speaker be shot? Is it possible it's just keyless entry and remote start without alarm?
Like I said, I have no experience with Viper or car alarms in general.

I have an Avital, which is made by the same company that produces Viper, DEI. My remote start locks/unlocks, flashes the lights, and enables the stock security system. I had them turn off the horn and chirp that went off with the stock system. IMO, just clean up the wiring and keep the system installed. You really don't know how nice it is to go out into a nice heated vehicle when's its 20* outside.

Viper is what I have in most of my vehicles, and as long as they are installed correctly they seem to be pretty much fool proof. I didn't have the "factory" system in my 4Runner, but if it is anything like the factory aka port installed "VIP" system in my MR2 then you are better off with out it. As far as the remote start, I love having it and we have some sissy weather compared to most places. I also plan on using it for this years x-mas trip, we will be spending a few nights in the truck in colder climates and the remote start can be easily set to start the engine every 3 hours to keep the truck semi warm overnight.
