Viper remote start, but no back window function??

Hey Everybody,

I called my local Best Buy to see if they could install a Viper system in my 08 4R SR5 but they said that any Viper system could not be wired to operate the back window...

That's a huge disappointment, I love the back window function on my stock faub, I don't know if I want to have a remote start without it...

Obviously I can get starter through a dealership but they cost way too much. Is the guy from Best Buy correct, or is that something that can be done, but they cannot do?

Thanks everybody.

I emailed Bulldog Security (sold at AutoZone), they said I could rig the trunk button to run the rear window. I suspect the same with the Viper. I'm planning to order a Viper and install it myself sometime, hopefully soon, will post up the results.

I recently got a Clifford remote start (same as Viper I believe) at Ultimate Electronics. They were able to install it so that the rear window can be opened AND closed with the fob. The installer had to use some extra electronic bits to make it work, but he didn't charge me for them- he said he had a bunch of extras in the shop.

I just got a shop to install a Viper 5902 w/2 window modules, tilt sensor, shock sensor, backup siren and battery into my 07 4Runner limited. 1 window module allows me to roll down my front windows, and the other allows me to roll down my back window. The windows also roll up automagically when I arm my system.

So you can definitely control the windows (any passenger or the rear) but you need the window module (bought mine on Amazon for ~$45 or so IIRC). Each module allows control of either 1 pair of windows, or 1 rear window...

Sounds good guys, thanks for the help... I'm going to skip out on Best Buy and go to a local car audio shop who probably know more about how to do it, and how to wire different functions, than the tech guys at Best Buy do..

I'll report back if I have any updates.

My Viper remote start doesn't have that function. Don't really know if I would use it even if it did. Would be nice to have a button that closes all the windows (like if it starts to rain), I think Saab key fobs do this, not sure.

Anyways just wanted to add that I think it's best to skip out on BestBuy, usually the car audio places are more knowledgeable. BestBuy screwed up on my mom's remote start and could not make the unlock/lock buttons work...so she had to use the stock key fob as well. Car audio place took care of it no problem.

Go online and buy viper 5901. I paid 209 plus 40 for the. PKALL. 45 for the window module. Labor will cost 150. Best buy wanted like 700 bucks for the set up. I will update when I get it done. Hopefully b4 the nasty weather hits chicago lol

I've got the Viper 5301 Remote Start installed on my '07 and I had my local car audio shop install it. They set it up to work with the back window and everything works fine. I bought a factory refurbished unit off of the internet for $99 and paid $180 for the install.

I wonder how the "Window Module" works? Since only the driver's and rear window have auto-up/down, how would they power and stop powering the windows?

I ordered the Viper 5101 today for $46. It has three aux channels I can use for other stuff, like the rear window. Probably won't install it 'till after Christmas, as things are getting busy, and I can't afford to fry my electrical system right now.

this is the module you'll need...

Viper - Window Automation System

keep in mind it'll control 1 set (pair) of windows, or 1 rear window...the way they hooked up my viper, when I activate the function, it'll roll the windows down bit by bit. If I need to close them, I simply arm the system and they close back up all the way. Don't really have a 'up or down' function per se

This thread is full of misinformation. I have the 5901 with smartstart on my 04T4R limited, and you do NOT need a window module to roll down the back window. It generally costs extra to have that installed, since the installer will have to run wires to the rear of the vehicle. The window module is for the other 4 windows, and you can roll those down independantly of the 4 door windows. Any decent car audio shop installer will know this, if they try to sell you a window module for the rear, they are trying to make an extra buck.

Rear window operation using aftermarket remote start

I've got the Viper 5501 on my 2010 4Runner SR5. The installer said he couldn't do the rear window up/ down. Even the stock keyfob doesn't do this, which my 2001 4Runner did...

I ran the trunk and aux wires from the alarm to the tailgate and tapped into the wires from the door lock, and now I have window up and down functions on remote. It was one hell of a job. I also added a piezo buzzer to the alarm horn output to replicate the Toyota buzzer sound (as the factory one from Toyota requires the ECU to signal the buzzer sound, and charging the circuit only makes the factory buzzer click).
