Viper Remote Start Questions/Issue

For those of you that have the Viper remote start, I had the 5906v installed and the installer is using my brake pedal as the safety/anti-theft mechanism. When depressed, the brake pedal stays down just a tad and I must use my toe to bring it back up every time I use my brake. It's annoying and a safety issue for me.

For those that have the Viper setup, does your use the brake pedal as well? Or doe it use the emergency brake?

I'm thinking he used the setup that the manual transmission would use, not the automatic transmissions.

Whoa, who did the install?? That is NOT how its supposed to work. There is nothing that should be hooked up to any pedals whatsoever. I recommend not driving it until you get it installed correctly. God forbid you get into an accident, you probably have no recourse.

I agree. The brake is now notchy. And unless I use my toe to bring the pedal back up the brake lights stay on. The way it work though it if I exit the vehicle without bringing the pedal up, the remote start does not work. With the pedal up, the remote start works, I get into the vehicle, insert my key and turn to acc, depress the brake pedal and shift from park. If the key is not inserted and the brake is depressed, the engine turns off. I understand the intention but in application it is not right.

The better way would be to use the emergency brake in the same manner.

I was just hoping there were other Viper users that knows the correct way to use this feature.

You sure it doesnt do that all the time?
The remote start hooks up to the 12v feed output from the pedal. It shouldn't effect travel. If a integration module was used, it grabs brake pedal status over can bus, so there is no need to go to the brake wire itself.

My brake pedal was operating normally before install. I wouldn't think that Viper would have it set up this way if it interfered with the normal operation of the brake pedal. Perhaps there was a mistake during install.

I just noticed your siganture, you have a 2004 TfR posting in the 5th gen section?

The remote start does not see brake over can on those 4th gen. it's a hardwired connection to the 12v output of the brake pedal that illuminations the rear brake lights. Still shouldn't have anything to do with brake pedal travel.

Something sounds really peculiar. Can you look up under the dash and look for the brake switch that the pedal arm hits? Are there any wires that look out of place/in the way of that area?

I posted here because when I searched for VIPER REMOTE start, most of the threads where for Gen 5 and I didn't get any responses in the 4th Gen area. As usual. :sobbing:
