they do have a newer version with everything built in, but it also need to be firmware flashed for the bypass to work.
very good for upgrades, you can upgrade the remotes for longer 2-way distance. up to 3 miles.

i would take the bypass module to a shop and pay them to program that. otherwise spend the 50-70 bucks for that usb adapter to program it yourself.
I don't have a bypass module, hence my question.
I'm like 90% sure I can just ziptie a spare key by the immobilizer antenna but confirmation would be nice.

Go get a cheap non-chip key cut and test it with a chipped key sitting near the column.
Not sure on the roll down, I use the factory fob for that.

wire up some relays to the switch itself, use the trunk trigger to time output, need to also power the ignition at the same time, just need 5 seconds. for roll up, its the same, use an aux channel for that.

Well I'll just wire the thing up and stick a key near it and see if it starts I guess.
Started on the install today.
The 4runner side of the wiring is all easy and straightforward, took no time at all to connect GND, 12+, ACC, IGN etc.
The viper unit I bought is another story. I might send it back. Their customer-hostility rubs me the wrong way and I'm struggling to get it to work.
I've got power to the unit, it for some reason needs 3 separate +12V which I've connected, the 2-way remote is working, but it doesn't even attempt to trigger the internal ACC relay and there is no onboard diagnostic (at this stage of the install anyway) that will tell me why. I've traced all my wires and confirmed power on everything that should have power but when I click start on the remote it sends the signal, confirms it was sent and then......nothing. It doesn't even attempt to send 12V+ to the ACC line.
ALSO-- I have tested bonding the hood pin and parking brake to ground as the manual implies these are requirements-- no change. (I've tested both, neither, etc)

if hood pin sense ground, it should shut off remote start.
Well this was the initial configuration and no beuno. Like I said earlier, I tried all possible combinations of hood pin and parking brake which are the only requirements implied in the installer manual. I'm confident there is something wrong with the IC or internal relays on the unit I received.
Viper told me to take a hike when I emailed them, so I've gone ahead and just ordered the unit I had in my last car which was fine and actually half the price. I'll lose the 2-way capability but that isn't a dealbreaker. I just thought I was buying a "fancier" unit.
BTW soapbox for a minute about Viper; I am completely baffled by their business model. So they sell these things on their own Amazon store and then actively disenfranchise customers by telling them to take a hike if they have problems and that they should have gone to an authorized dealer. THEN WHY DO YOU OPERATE AN AMAZON STORE? How much is this company wasting of their own time and money in return shipments?
That said, from reading about them post-sale, they appear to charge their """authorized dealers""" a $20,000 fee which mostly only makes sense in the context that their business model is derived charging these fees. Doing some quick math based on typical retail unit economics, you would have to sell 500+ units a year to justify this fee. I know my local custom shop isn't selling nearly that many remote starts in a year. Probably doable in high-volume markets like NYC, Miami, LA, Chicago, but nowhere else. I guess I can sort of grasp this model but it is very confusing why they're putting these units out to retail and then refusing to support them. The amount of costs and brand damage seems like an unforced error.
Oh well, not my problem.
Oh yeah one more rant:
Can I just say how idiotic it is to have a harness with multiple combinations of the same wire colors? I.e. blue/white & white/blue. I've been around the block enough to avoid these pitfalls but holy crap! If you need that many colors you need to break things out into another harness. It's just one of those things that you have to know is going to result in support calls.

I looked at the install for a lot of different products when I researched remoted start for my 4th Gen. The Viper and another self install solution from Amazon looked tempting from the price and their descriptions made it sound really easy to install until you looked at the bare wire harness in the kit and the number of wire to wire connections you need to make.
I ended up saving up for a 12v solutions model and bought during their BF sale. Install was not beginner easy as their instructions pics were not perfect and one plug could actually go in 2 different places however their customer support was excellent and they even shipped me a replacement module and a encoding adapter FOC to get me up and running.
Been running this in my car for 4 years now with no issues at all.
The 12 volt solutions unit looks nice but it's too pricey and I want fobs that can do door lock/unlock/rear window rolldown at a minimum so I can avoid carrying multiple fobs around. Since my replacement kit has an extra button I'm going to try to rig it up to trigger defrost.
Wiring by hand really isn't that bad, there's documents floating around detailing all the various car-side wires, their locations, colors, etc. I'm attaching one to this post for future searchers. In general, you just snap t-taps onto the wires, takes seconds. The ones I am using have spade connectors so 100% of my remote start connections will be removeable without tools.

The first car I put a remote starter in was a 93 Grand Voyager over 25 years ago. Lots of wires to splice, I did a few more the same way. Once I found T-harness setups, I went that route. Cleaner install and way faster, my time is worth the extra cost. The last few I installed plugged into the OBD connector and had very few wires to splice but did have some configuration. Pricey, yeah but still way cheaper than paying someone to install it. Of course, these models will start the car from quite a distance away which was another must.
The last 2 I installed have a small square 1"x1" sized thin button. I find that small enough to be out of the way and still use the factory fob for things like electric van doors. My 4runner starter has a 2way fob so you know it's running. The annoying part on it is that it is rechargeable and the charge doesn't last anywhere close to a replaceable button battery style.

what system did you buy?
where is the master install manual?
maybe you need to hook up the key sense wire to detect a key in the ignition since you don't have a bypass module.
use a fortin key-override-all. its only 30-50 bucks. thats a decent bypass
