Vivid Racing ECU flash tune. Any detail?

Lastly I didn't say I would get a tune for the throttle mapping alone, that would be silly. I would get a tune for all the added benefits it gives driving and enjoying a vehicle (hp, mileage, shifting logic, drive-ability...) and the throttle mapping would be an added bonus. In reality a properly tuned ECU would negate the need for a PC/SB and URD MAF Calibrator (plus what other add-ons may exist for our trucks) in one neat package for those so inclined. Just another option for the consumer which is never a bad thing.

I must've misunderstood you when you said -

"While extra hp is always good, the truck already has a decent amount to be honest. What we all really want is that damn throttle lag tuned out!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Make it completely linear from tip in to mashed fully. Make it resemble a throttle cable's response and most of the griping on this forum will disappear."

I am certainly interested in a tune and understand the risks involved but from your own statement you made throttle lag the most important part and we have devices for that already without added risks.

If at any point you reply we will end it at that. I don't wish to clutter this thread.

What I am interested in is other peoples feedback on this tune.

My Vivid Racing tune comes in Tuesday next week. I return to town on Wednesday and hope to get it flashed by Friday. They said they have about a 24hr turn around time max on the tune file after you email it over.

I will post a review after some miles. I may not get to it by next week as Im leaving for New Mexico on Sat for a week and it might be wise not to tune for that, and my feedback will be clouded as ill be running the rig fully weighed down. Stay "tuned' lol

Can't wait to hear your feedback.

Putting it on a dyno?

If cost is not too bad I would be interested in this once warranty period is over.

Am I the only one who has no idea what these people are talking about when they complain about the throttle? It drives like any other SUV out there. The only issue I see with the car performance is it's horrible aerodynamics and need for some more torque.

Agreed. Many other cars have this as oem, for gas savings. Which, honestly, is fine. Because the times you need to accelerate fast is about 0.1% of actual driving time.

I even have the past experience of a highly modded, tuned sports car before I stepped into the 4runner. And I really don't miss the throttle response.

The one thing I will say is that throttle mapping is 100% part of most tunes these days. There's quite a lot that can be done. Heck, they can even tune flat-foot-shifting into manual transmissions, so that when it detects gearchange, it reduces timing a lot to cut power and close the throttle automatically. On the fly ecu map changes using the cruise control button as the toggle, etc. It's pretty wild.

Please please do a dyno. If you do one, I will send you some bigtime karma and maybe even a few bucks toward the cost after the fact on paypal lol.

I'm coming from a v8 Bronco, so I find the drive by wire and v6 lacking, but knew that going into the whole station wagon deal.

So does this mean you log some pulls and they adjust the tune and send it back? I had something similar to this with my 2012 Mustang GT. Not as good as a dyno tune but probably good enough for most of us.

Try a Pedal Commander on any of the City or Sport modes, and you'll be rewarded with a much more responsive pedal.

When I moved from a 4 liter V6 Tacoma, to my 4 liter V6 4Runner, I really disliked the mushy throttle pedal. The 4R has more power than my older Tacoma, but it didn't feel like it until I really put my foot in it.

I know that the Pedal Commander doesn't add more power, but it makes the modulation of the throttle/pedal so much better. Money well spent in my opinion, especially since it comes with a 30 day money back, satisfaction guarantee.

351 V8 with a few tweaks does what it needs to do, even with 290k on the odometer. If I get half of that out of the TuRD i will be happy.

I should be passing that mileage sometime next year in my 2011. Have replaced a fuel pump for a failed check valve (causing hard starting when hot). My buddy has a 90-something Bronco with over 350k miles, but he would be hard pressed to point to an OEM part on it.

Call me lucky then.

Uhhhh you'd be happy getting 145k from a 4Runner? You mean the same model of truck that is the longest-owned vehicle on average in Texas, and top 3 in most other states?

And your epic throttle Bronco story doesn't check out too much. At most, at that mileage you're putting out prolly 240hp and 330tq, with more drivetrain loss and narrower power band than the 4Runner.

So my guess is you're falling for the whole "The 4Runner takes off quietly therefore I must not be going very fast" thing.

Cuz I'll race you in my stock '18 against your Windsor Bronco, even at half throttle, and dust you bad while getting twice the mpg with the same weight truck (ie station wagon as you call it).

Lots of Bronco envy. I got it. Two different trucks from different decades (5th gen) I have yet to put my TuRD to the test, but have used some while in Kosovo (3rd gen i think) and they are very capable. Can we get back to the original topic?

No, they just need the original file to modify it. Each year has slight differences... plus you VIN...

Just kinda suspect/odd you refer to your new TRD as a TuRD, yet are on the 4runner forum, no?

In either case, a tune will very likely improve your throttle response, without the need for the extra hardware/cables that come with the Sprint Booster.

So if you like the instant-on gas pedal from an older truck like your Bronco, it'll be exactly what you want. Tunes now are pretty incredible.

THE ONLY concerns are a) quality of this tune, b) whether you're still in warranty, as you may want to avoid until warranty is over, c) any limitations of the tune, such as octane, knock-related towing concerns (OEM tunes often run over-rich under high load, to cool the cylinders and prevent low-rpm/high-load detonation), and d) any tune-related interference with sophisticated ECU stuff involved with CRAWL control, the e-locker, and Terrain Select.

I also refer to it as "the station wagon" and " minibus" from time to time. After 22 years of of daily driving with little to no issue (with exception to the north east rust) the old Bronco has set the bar kind of high, but I'm sure in 10-15 years i will be just as devoted to my lil TuRD premie. As for tuning, I will wait until the testing and development is complete. Then see if it's worth it. I do like the super charger idea though.

With your love of Ford Broncos why didn’t you just wait for the new one instead of settling for a Toyota turd station wagon?
