Vizualogic Bluetooth....... looks OEM!

Did you install the right-hand switches or did you have someone else do it? Either way, your 4Runner should be pre-wired as my 2003 SR5 that did not have ANY buttons from the factory was already prewired. There are only 3 wires leading to the NAVI on the small 20-pin connector. It sounds like the right side isn't connected properly or is just defective. The connectors on the ribbon are pretty flimsy, so I would start there to make sure they're connected properly. Honestly, the voice command is pretty useless, the only thing I could get it to recognize was "I'm hungry."

As far as your mic goes, I would buy the connector that the mic plugs into and then fabricate a harness.

I also added the AUX input (used the switch from the GX470) and have an aftermarket backup camera installed but haven't hooked it up yet. Fishing wires through the hatch is not fun.

Honestly, I would try to get it working since you already have all the parts. Why spend more money for something that you already have?

I installed them myself gingerly and carefully. I don't trust anyone with my runner (even professional installers). I guess I can try to get the BT steering wheel buttons to work by playing with them. If not, then the rest of the project is dead. I'm not going to replace them. They cost, from what I remember $150-200. For that money, I'd rather the bluefusion/mediabridge and have BT & music streaming! Anyway, if I can get the BT buttons to light up, then I'll get the mic from your link. Thanks by the way!!!!!

The voice NAV, I meant so the unit can dictate me the directions as opposed to me staring at the screen for instructions. As far as voice activation, that is worthless to me. My Honda NAVI has voice activated radio/NAV functions, but I have yet to use it.

Thanks! You've motivated me to check out the connections of the BT buttons. If I can't get them to light, then I'm done with it. (or perhaps they they need to be wired to the HU for them to light???)

Either way, I WILL HAVE BLUETOOTH !!

Hey Guys,

I gave up trying to get my E7009's bluetooth to work. My 05 isn't prewired for the steering wheel BT controls. ANYWHO.....

Found this. The ConVerse (by Rostra) Bluetooth kit for 4Runner. Looks the size of our buttons on our dashboards and center consoles. Price doesn't look to be too expensive and best of all, looks OEM.

Anybody ever try it? If not, it's cheap enough that I might try it.

What kind of problems were you having? I installed an E7009 nav into my 04 SE 4runner and completed both the backup camera, factory BT, and nav hack.. Its been a while but I might remember the issues and solutions to them

I have 2 problems:
1) the BT buttons on the steering wheel don't do anything. (not even light up at night)
2) The plug to where the factory mic (behind the overhead sunglass holder) DOESN'T exist on my ride. (Note: Apparently on pre 2006 runners, these connectors are not there)

This leads me to 2 conclusions:
1) If I can't get my BT buttons to work, then the project is sunk (which was my train of thought which is why I threw in the towel on this).
2) IF, BIG IF, I can get the BT buttons to work and Since I don't have the mic connector in the ceiling, then I should do what tkr128 did and purchase a different TYPE of microphone (also Toyota mic)

One thing that is preventing me from moving forward:
1) the BT buttons on the steering wheel. I can't be sure they are the problem. So many on this forum who just "plugged them in" got theirs to work. Maybe my part is defective, but I can't take it back. Also, the part is too expensive for me to even consider buying another one to try it again.

Yea, definitely the buttons on the steering wheel is holding you back. They should light up at the very least. So you bought the the cable ribbon and buttons together, right? I really don't remember what I did to get those to work, but I don't think it was anything beyond plugging in the cable and running it to the other side. If you can get past that all that is left is the microphone and some pins you have to tap behind the headunit.

As for the microphone, what I did was by the factory mic from toyota and wire it up myself. I purchased 3 wire shielded cable that I ran from behind the headunit up through the a-pillar to the mic location. I still have some of that cable left, and the microphone too haha. I FINALLY found a GX470 console that had the mic built in so now I have an extra. If you get past the button issue, maybe you'd be interested in this one.

Haven't had the time. With the new baby/work and "fine tuning" my retros, I really haven't had time to fiddle with it. When I do, I want to be "fully armed". When I do get the time, I want to install the rear view camera and run that wire to the amp to have voice Navigation. Like I mentioned before, I might go with the Mediabridge 1500 module only b/c I would like to connect my iphone. With the Mediabridge, the ipod part of the phone (and apparently pandora too) can be integrated onto the NAV screen.............. I like toys.
