Volkswagon switchblade key/ keyless entry...

I saw these on eBay and a few friends I have have VW's and I absolutly LOVE the keys. How its jsut a little black box and the key flips out at the press of a button. These are also on eBay.
Factory volkswagon UNCUT.
Can I get these cut to fit a Toyota? If no, why?
If not, will a mercedes one work?
ALSO, will I be able to program the buttons that are on there for MY keyless entry? thanks in advance!!!!

If they use the same key type, yes, you could get it cut to fit your car. You could also remove the metal key and put your Toyota key in there, but it's pretty difficult to do and requires some modification.

It will be nearly impossible to program the buttons to work with your keyless entry. Unless you find someway to integrate the circuitry from your current remote into the new one, it's not possible.

So, in other words, it can be done, but the cost and labor of doing it is a lot more than it's really worth. This goes for any type of key, including the Lexus keys.

So the only way is to take out the cuircutry in the remote, and put mine in from my remote, and somehow fit my toyota key in there? If so, im sure I know a metalworker/fabber who can attempt this.
Would there be any easier way? Thanks in advance!

I think you will be out of luck. The key type is very different if you look at the design.

I also think the Toy keys are connected to a chip inside the key for security, which will make it very difficult to modify for the container. I'm not 100% sure of this, maybe somebody can jump in on it.

yeah, our 4R keys have a chip inside for security purposes. thats why the grip looks fat compared to other keys.

I have a 97, I dont think I have a chip. My whole key is metal (spare).

It won't work. I had a Passat and the key is actually a grove in a piece of metal. Different set-up.

By "our t4rs" I think they meant 4th gens... maybe newer 3rd gens might be chipped but obviously not yours or my 2nd gen.



The reason the VW keys are so expensive like that is because they're laser keys. I have an Audi with the same keys. Not only would you drop 300 for one of those keys, unless ebays THAT much cheaper.
Not only that but its a lot skinnier a key and you wouldn't be able to flip it, AND it wouldn't work to open your doors (the remote).... so yeah. LOL. I'll sell you my spare just for kicks tho... you could always pull them out when you're heading to your car and switch out the key like a wiz, and then when you finally get to your car and noones around pull out the real key.
