Vortex Muffler getting softer?

I just got my Vortex installed last week. It sounded great for the first few days but when I was driving today I could tell there was a noticeable difference in the sound. It wasn't as deep and it didn't "rumble" as much as it did when it was first installed. Even with my windows rolled down, I can hear a noticeable decrease in the "growling" deep sound of the muffler.

Has anyone else experienced this? I know ClemsonFan mentioned that his got louder over time so that makes me think this is especially weird. I'm contemplating taking it back to the shop where it got installed and asking if they can throw it up on the lift and just check it out to see if they see anything wrong or different.

I don't think it's possible, but maybe they installed it backwards. That wouldn't really explain why it got softer though. Just throwing out an idea.

Yeah I don't really know what could explain it. I took like a 4 hr round trip road-trip for lacrosse on Sunday and that was a big change in my driving pattern since I got it installed, because normally I just drive around school which is only a few miles here or there. But I dunno why that would make a difference. I'm gonna take it back to the muffler shop where it was installed and have them throw it up on the lift and maybe they can see what's wrong. :bash:

When its hot (after you have left your car on/driven for a long period of time) the Vortex sounds drastically different from when its cold.

Summer days (in VA) would cause mine to sound a whole lot different than winter mornings. It just has to do with the muffler heating up and cooling down.

Hmm ok well that would make sense them because I started to notice it after I made that long drive where I was on the road for a while. Maybe once it cools down it'll sound different.

I agree with Rbv. My Dynomax sounds kind of raspy when it's both cold outside and the engine is cold. Sounds a little better after it's been running for a while when the temperature outside is cold. once the weather warms up though, it sounds ten times better.

That's not a good sign. Usually, if your exhaust gets really hot its because you're running lean (to much air, not enough fuel) which, if you're not running a supercharger, can mean that either your fuel pump is going out (tough fix), your fuel filter is getting bad (easy fix), your fuel injectors are going bad (tough fix) or something in your intake system isnt working, like the maf sensor (easy fix). Im not positive that thats your problem or that you even have a problem but theres some thing to look out for or look into.

Its baffled but it still has packing...I think.

Usually, if your exhaust gets really hot its because you're running lean (to much air, not enough fuel) which, if you're not running a supercharger, can mean that either your fuel pump is going out (tough fix), your fuel filter is getting bad (easy fix), your fuel injectors are going bad (tough fix) or something in your intake system isnt working, like the maf sensor (easy fix). Its made for the sound it gives the vehicle. It alters airflow to make that sound so the extremely hot exhaust is going to make the muffler very very hot as it passes through.

As the metal and material inside gets hotter the sound changes.... And cheap paint cracks off.

And also, I noticed the sound of it changing drastically simply because of the weather and conditions outside. On dry, crisp days it was the low rumble that you want. On wetter, humid days, the muffler would give off a noticeably different sound.

My sunny, crisp days were always more enjoyable.

Well I know exhaust gets hot. Ive never had a vortex muffler so I figured if the paint on the muffler is melting then its becuase of excess exhaust temperature not because of cheap paint. My bad.:sadwave:
