VSC and TRAC Lights on No CEL No Codes

Definitely a head scratcher. Seems anyone doing a manual swap on the newer 3rd gens with VSC/TRACwill run into the same situation. You'll probably need to wring out the wires and find out which one is going to the ABS comp. Running across the OP's thread and your info on the jumper helped me out tremendously yesterday. The fact the he got the same indications doing an LED swap pretty much solidified the steps I needed to take. I went back and looked at the WM after it was fixed to see how, or rather why toyota would tie in an instrument panel PCB to an ABS system. I'm sure I'm overlooking the obvious but I'm going to dig deeper into this. I hate not understanding. Keep me posted on what you find out.

Did you pull the VSC codes by the way? I wonder if they're the same as mine.

Take a look at post #5 previous page. These are the only two VSC codes I pulled.
  • Neutral Safety (37) "PNP switch circuit (P/R range)"
  • Open circuit in center differential lock signal (47)

I cleared codes and did a zero point calibration.

My educated guess is the PNP circuit must be tied into the instrument panel through the indicator lights. The center diff lock signal is; according to item (c) on the trouble area on the chart, also tied into the "Center differential lock indicator light circuit."

According to the diagnostics page DI-240/241 the threshold is <1.5V. It's looking for 10-14. It looks like the VSC ECU needs voltage from the combination meter at V18-4 and V19-10.

What device did you read the codes with? And what port? ABDII port under the drivers side dash or in the engine bay?

You need to use the small "Diagnostics Port" on the drivers side in the engine bay. If you run the jumper as stated and head in the rig and turn the ignition on, you will be able to count the flashes. Compare those to the DTC codes in the FSM.

Go back to these posts (#4 and #5) http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-g...ac-lights-no-cel-no-codes.html#post2385983and look at the codes.

I found some great information on Ultimate Yota Here: http://www.ultimateyota.com/showthread.php?10048-Pulling-and-resetting-ABS-codes

Hope this is what you're looking for.

Thanks for this info - Glad to know I'm not the only one. I had my VSC/TRAC lights on w/ no CEL for quite sometime. I replaced my burnt out "P" and "D" bulbs in the dash and fixed the problem.

Unfortunately, this unveiled a new problem - my VSC is not working properly. It engages and cuts my throttle when accelerating even VERY slow from a stop. I removed the bulbs I replaced and lights came back on - I'm now using this as a way to disable the VSC/TRAC until I have the time to chase down the problem (or maybe never - I kind of like it without).
