VSC lights, CEL, high Idle

First, just want to say that this forum is awesome. Learning a lot reading through here.

Second, for the issue. Tonight I cleaned my MAF sensor, throttle body (both with correct fluids), took out the hydrocarbon filter, and cleaned and re-liled my K&N air filter. Put everything back together, and both VSC lights are on along with my CEL. The 4runner is also idling high, but I've heard this happens after clean the MAF and TB.

Any thoughts on the lights?!?!

Ok, so I dug a little deeper into the forums and saw that if you unplug the battery neutral and let it sit for a few minutes that fixes it. And, well, it did. All lights off, idle seems to be better (although it seems odd that the battery would help this).

BUT, now my aftermarket stereo isn't working...WTF?

Not sure what you did with the stereo, I'd check the fuses.

Is there any chance when you were cleaning the MAF and TB that you left the key on? If so, then it would have noticed the MAF unplugged and/or also you moving the TB manually (a big no no if the key is on as it can set DTCs and/or damage the electronic throttle body.)

If your 4Runner is an '03 or '04 then you'll need to do a ZPC (Zero Point Calibration) as the information is lost when the battery is disconnected on these vehicles. Also for the vehicle to properly relearn idle after you've disconnected the battery for a while, you'll want to let the vehicle idle for about 5-10 minutes with NO loads (i.e. no headlamps, stereo, HVAC, ect.)

Thanks for the reply! I checked all fuses, both under the steering wheel and under the hood, and couldn't figure anything out. What I did was just unplug the negative again on the battery and left it off for a few minutes. Hooked it back up and everything works now, even the radio. Don't know why it didn't work the first time, but hey, it works.

BUT, now the VSC lights (both) are on again. I turn the vehicle on, they're off. I put the 4R in gear, they're off. As soon as my wheels turn, the lights come on. What could be causing this?

What year is your 4Runner? You probably need to do a ZPC relearn if it is an '03 or '04 like I stated in my earlier post.

You were right. I forgot to add in my previous post about the ZPC. I just performed this and the lights are off and I feel like I'm driving with all four wheels again! Thanks for your help.

Bumping an ancient thread to point out that you can also reset the code if necessary after a MAF cleaning using an OBD reader + app such as OBD Fusion.
