VSC Off, Check Engine light and the traction control squiggly thing again...

I left my gas cap off the other day when I filled up and then drove to work the next morning. After work, the darned lights came on. I had these same lights once before about 30k miles ago and the dealership couldn't find any problem and said it was likely that I hadn't tightened the gas cap and they reset the code/lights. I recall being able to reset codes by pulling the EFI fuse in my 3rd gen. Anyone know how to clear the code/lights on the 4th?

Had the same issue a week after I bought it, scare the ****t out of me. Took it to the dealer and they clear it plus some pressure loss on m tires.

disconnect the battery for a few mins to clear the codes. if they come back on, then get them scanned at Autozone or something.

Just had to do this after getting a new gas cap.

I waited about 4 days and the code wasn't clearing. I didn't wanna disconnect it because I had my stereo head unit (aftermarket) adjusted just how I wanted it, but duh, no biggie, I just wrote down the settings and reprogrammed.

It's been about a week and no codes. *knocks on wood*

Can anyone confirm if this is the same as what happens when shops use OBD scanners and reset the "0" point setting for VSC?

The zero point calibration could be a possibility if an aftermarket obd2 scanner was used. I had all three lights come on before too. But mine was cause my O2 sensor was bad. But i had to do a zero point calibration due to my use of the scanner and the fact that only the check engine light turned off after the change. But if its jist the gass cap just give it a little time with driving and start ups. Should go off on its own.

Well if not. Let me know i cam walk you through a zero loint calibration as well. Easy to do and dont cost more than a few dollars

I can tell you from personal experience just this week! I live in NY and had to take my car in for inspection. It didn't pass because I had used an OBDII scanner to reset the codes.

After that happens, you have to run the car through a series of drive cycles and check with the scanner again to see if they're good. This is the case whenever you reset anything using an OBDII on a Toyota.

After about 50 miles or so, everything checked out and went back for the inspection.

My case was the same, three EVAP codes all because of a faulty gas cap. I confirmed that the cap was faulty because it didn't have any spring tension when taking it off. It should have a little kickback to it and it didn't. I ordered another one on ebay for $15 and good as new.

a zero point calibration has nothing to do with resetting evap CEL codes thrown by a loose gas cap. this link does not belong in this thread. a zero point calibration is used to tell your skid control computer that the yaw sensors are at 0.

Nuke, just pull the negative terminal on the battery for a few seconds. It'll clear the codes and won't even throw off your head unit's presets. I had to do it several times while I was troubleshooting my gas cap issue.

After approximately 150 miles in about 3 days time, the lights have reset as I had hoped. Thanks for all the input.

So these same lights came on for me last week. After reading this & other threads about the cause, I bought a new gas cap from the dealer. I have unplugged the battery & had the light come back on. Before that I drove around waiting for it to turn off by itself. Finally went to O'Reilly's to have them check the codes & they said all they saw was an ABS code. Cleared the code, but driving away the code came back on.
Has anyone else had experience with this? Was curious before I took it somewhere that would charge me to have it looked at.

Apparently they did not have a capable scan tool to get the code. They could only tell that it was an ABS issue. Actually drove down the street to Autozone to see if they could do it, but they cold only pull MIL codes. I'm going to try another O'Reilly's to see if I have any luck.

After 2 O'Reilly's later was able to get 2 codes:

C1223: Malfunction in antilock brake system control system
C1249: Open circuit in stop light switch circuit

I'd throw a stop lamp switch in the vehicle, that's what the DTCs are telling me (I'm not concerned by the C1223 as it's just a "hey I have an issue in the ABS System!" code more than anything else.)
