Yeah, so all of the brake and tracion related lights came on in my 2002 4runner this morning on the way to work. Brakes work correctly, brake fluid level is correct and I have brake lights. I know this has probably been covered to death but everyone here is always so helpful I thought I would make my own post. Any ideas? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
VSC off, VTC off, ABS and brake lights all on

The problem is your abs ecu has gone bad just replace it with a good used one or buy a new one from the dealer which is just under 400 and its a 5 min job to replace.
I just did this on my 01 and only 01-02 has this ecu and make sure to get one that matches your wheel size as it is important.

0500 in our handy dandy tech manual (pgs 279-80) sez code is issued because:
No vehicle speed sensor signal to ECM under following conditions:
(2 trip detection logic)
For A/T:
(a) Park/neutral position switch is OFF
(b) Vehicle is being driven
For M/T:
(a) Engine speed is between 1,800 rpm and 3,500 rpm
Trouble areas:
1) Speedometer cable
2) Open or short in speed signal circuit and/or
3) ECM
Inspection procedures:
1) check the operation of your speedo.
2) Check voltage between terminal SP1 of ECM connector and body ground.
PREPARATION:
(a) Remove the glove compartment.
(b) Disconnect the E12 connector from the ECM.
(c) Shift the shift lever to the neutral.
(d) Jack up a rear wheel on one side.
(e) Turn the ignition switch ON.
CHECK:
Measure the voltage between terminal SP1 of the ECM connector
and body ground when the wheel is turned slowly.
OK:
Voltage is generated intermittently (4-6v).
If not ok, Check and repair harness and connector between
combination meter and ECM.
If still doesn't work right, then check and potentially replace ECM. Luck!
Drivers side lower kick panel held in by a few 12 mm bolts, The ecu is for 100% sure your problem as mine did the exact same thing as yours is doing it's easy and quick to change .

Hey OP have you checked the ABS wire itself? They are almost constantly exposed to road debris, water, etc and the insulation on them aint exactly bulletproof. When this happened on my '04 I replaced both driver and passenger sides with speaker wire and it fixed the problem immediately.
I have not checked any of the sensor wires. I thought about it but I only drive about 4 miles per day round trip to and from work and I am super observant for road debris. I'm not saying I couldn't have missed something but in my particular case the chances of running over something are not very high. Thank you for your suggestion :thanks:
I had same problem, same fix. Glad I found this thread, cause the dealership wanted to charge me $3400 (yeah you read that right) to change the power brake booster.
And charged me $113 for a bad diagnosis.
I bought one at the junkyard for $38!
