I just finished my VSC on/off mod, but I was just wondering if anyone has figured out how to use the standard Trac off button (or an OEM styled switch) as their VSC switch?
A few people have done this, I'm soon to be one of them. I keep forgetting to take the oem vsc off switch from my dad's truck every time I see him. The switch is momentary and you have to convert it to a standard on/off using some staples. I know HokieRunner just did this.
ETA here's the link How to convert an OEM momentary switch - Toyota FJ Cruiser Forum
I converted a factory vsc switch to work like normal. I used safety pins.
Wired the switch into the dash already, it looks factory and pretty like it should. Haven't actually got into the 4xECU though, been lazy... I don't want to remove the whole dash again to run the wire. Pure straight laziness...
Check my build thread for a pic of the switch(es)...
Will I require a relay or a circuit of some sort? I saw someone on fjcforums used a D flipflop and relay for his.
If you want to make it so that pushing the switch deactivates VSC, you will use a relay. Otherwise, you can just splice in the wires and leave the switch pushed in to have VSC on like hearno did.
Why would you want the VSC off and the center diff unlocked?
1 - So I take a vsc switch, and without a relay, pushing it will make it turn ON, and with one, pushing it will turn it OFF?
2 - What relay would I use for it?
3 - Would I need a specific spot in the under the hood fuse box for it?
4 - finally, how would I wire it all together?
Uhh if you have the switch without a relay following hearno's method the switch pressed = VSC on, switch unpressed = VSC off.
You can add the relay wherever you want -
30 - fused IGN 12v +
87 - not used
87a - input to ECU for VSC
85 - ground
86 - + trigger from switch.
This way, relay has 87a constantly giving output to the VSC in the ECU, when you hit the switch, the relay switches output to 87 which is not used and cuts power to 87a, effectively cutting the VSC.

I'm planning on using this method when I do mine. The idea is to connect a ground wire to the stock switch instead of a power/signal wire. When the switch is depressed, the ground is complete and the purple/red 4xECU wire is grounded, thus VSC is off. Pressing the switch again (button out) opens the circuit and un-grounds the wire. The stock switch has 4 connections, pos and neg for the light (lights up like other factory switches with headlights on), and then the signal in/out connections...but in my case, signal is just ground.
Not sure I need this mod either, just seems more interesting for the desert driving I'm hoping to do some more of....
txclimber good question... I could never figure out the functional purpose behind this mod either... hopefully someone will chime in and answer your question
I assume it'll work the same when splicing to the Wire coming from the brake booster? (I have a 2WD, so I don't have the 4xECU, lol)
