VSC/TRAC Light

Hi I just got my first 4runner, a 03 Sport Edition v8. Only owned it a couple of weeks but already love it. I bought it from a dealer and when I bought it the vsc off and trac off lights were lit up. Did a little research online to see some of the potential causes and decided that if the dealer would knock off the cost of the repair then I would deal with it myself. The dealership (not toyota) had replaced the front brake pads and did a fluid change so I thought maybe all it needed was the zero point calibration or maybe they knocked something loose. I did the zero point calibration but instead of the lights going off my abs light began to flash and the two lights (vsc/trac) are still lit. I traced out the wires and they all look okay, and I did the calibration again with the same results. Where should I go from here? Not opposed to taking it to the mechanic but would like some help with any other diagnostics I can do at home.

Could be anything ,
The same light's come on for a bad O2 sensor and many other things. Have the codes pulled. You can still fix it yourself if you want ,This way save's a lot of time , grief and money.
You should be out enjoying your new rig not working on it.
Good luck

I thought that if it was a o2 sensor the maintenance light would come on as well and it hasn't. Went to Autozone to rent the scanner and they are no longer doing that. Anyone in San Jose recommend a good mechanic?
