Vsc trac lights

I am the new owner of a 03 limited with 68000 miles in rather nice condition.

Among my many questions, when I start the vehical there are no error lites until I put it in gear. Then the vcs trac lite and the vsc trac off light come on.

I have checked with a code reader but there are no stored codes. Another thing that puzzles me is there is no on off switch for the vsc.

Why are these lights on and what do i do about it?

Do the lights go back off when you put it in park?

Find the factory service manual on here or on the net (it's free, in PDF form from several sources), and look up these lights. I do not recall criteria for turning them on but if they don't come on until you put it in gear, I'm guessing this is well documented. Either that, or there are codes you cannot see. What type of scanner is being used?

Sounds like you need to do a ZPC, (zero point calibration).
Very easy to do it yourself.

The code reader can set off the lights.
Damaged front ABS wheel sensor wire can do this too.
If you disconnected the battery with a Scangauge2 plugged in the ODB2 port it will do it too.

There is no VSC switch on these early 4th gens...However you can add a mod one.

Backoff is correct. I had the same issue when I used a cheap OBD2 reader from Harbor Freight. Do a zero point calibration, it easy to do and its the cheapest.
