VSC, Trac Off, ABS, Skid Control Lights on

2006 4WD SR5 all four lights came on during a trip recently, and have been intermittently coming on ever since. I have seen the previous threads on this, but most seemed to deal with 2003-2005, and since many of hte comments dealt with plugging in the wrong type of code reader, I wanted to ask before i made things worse. Lights first appeared about 600 miles after new tires installed. Seem to come on during lower speed driving and in parking lots when turning/braking. No CEL light on, and lights go off after restarting vehicle. Lights popped on on the highway last night when wife driving, and she said the cruise freaked out and accelerated. I will have the codes read at autozone, but didn't want them to accidentally make it worse. SHould I start with battery disconnection to clear codes and see what happens, or am i better off taking directly to auto store and having codes read? Is there anything special i need to do, or will a regular OBII scanner work properly?

Thanks for the link. Do the lights need to be on in order for the codes to be pulled, or are they stored? WDE!

Codes should be stored until you reset by disconnecting the battery.

Pulling the battery and letting it sit for a while will clear most of the vehicle memory that isn't in PROM (Permanent Read Only Memory), i.e. the programmed/hardcoded stuff.

You want the lights on as these mean the system still sees a fault and DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) are still stored in the vehicle's memory. I would the auto parts store or a shop to pull your codes for you and we'll see what we can do from there.

Hi, I recently got a 06' Limited 4WD, and am having the same problem. The codes that I got are:
C1223 : ABS Control System Malfunction
C1249 : Open Circuit in Stop Light Switch Circuit
I was wondering if this too can be rectified by just replacing the Stoplight switch, or I need to do some more diagnosing?

Also, if I were to replace the switch should I go with an OEM or the aftermarket ones are good enough?

I've had the lights mentioned in this thread title on for a few months, and I finally brought my 08 in to the dealership to tie it in with my 60k mile service. Turns out after hours of diagnosing and waiting, it was the forsaken faulty gas cap that was throwing the sensors off. A cheap fix, after all, which I was pleased with!
