As we were heading home late on Christmas day, it started to snow pretty bad. We were about 10 minutes from home when the 4Runner started to get sideways...in the worse area it could...trees on both sides of the road. Lucky for us, good ol' VSC kicked in and straightened the 'Runner right up...I'm sure glad Toyota put that feature in it's 4Runners..... :)

Yup VSC can be a life saver. That is why it is advisable to NOT lock the center differential when driving through such conditions because doing so disables VSC.

If you need to lock the center differential just to get out of a snow bank or something, don't forget to unlock it afterwards.

I had a similar situation happen to me a couple of months ago. I was driving on a gravel road and hit a loose patch right on a curve. I felt the back starting to slip, but before i even had a chance to slow down, i heard a beep and the truck straightened right away. Just another awesome feature of our 4runners!
 
VSC sure is a great thing. It actually saved me two times. The first time, I was coming out of a carwash and they must have spilled some greasty stuff all over the road. When I went to make a left turn out of there, I started to fishtail and the VSC straightened me out. The other time, there was around three inches of snow on the ground and my Dunlops started to loose grip. VSC activated and it prevented me from spinning out. On a side note, since I swtiched to Revos, no VSC encounters! :D

How much did it cost you to add those heated mirrors to your SR5 truck??

Yup...I put it in about 2 months after I bought the 4Runner....I think it cost around $120.....I got it off Ebay
 
stupid question

The other day I backed down a hill and put the 4Runner in drive, the truck started rolling backwards. I hear a clicking sound with a beep and start to pull forward. Is that VSC? Why would it engage just pulling forward on an incline?
 
veloindy - sounds more like Hill Assist kicking in. It'll try to stop you from rolling back while you transfer from brake to accelerator.

Ahh, will hill assist kick in automatically? Sorry, I'm new to the in's and out's, this is my first SUV.

Yes, it will kick in automatically just as the VSC would when it senses a skid.

That's pretty cool, I must've skipped over that in the manual or ignored it.

I tried the same thing in 4H and it didn't kick in.
