VVT-i V-8 Super Charger

Don't the TRD units only kick in at like 3/4 throttle and above?

If so, that could be one reason you could get alot more useable power with less stress from an aftermarket unit.

Seems like being able to enjoy a full 6psi of boost in normal driving wouldn't stress the internals as much and would also allow you to feel and hear the boost during everyday driving.

If I'm not mistaken, having boost off the bottom could actually improve gas milage too by making the engine more efficient... Well that, or by cramming all that fuel and air in might cut milage in half. Whatever, boost would be cool. ;)

The TRD (Roots type) supercharger is a positive displacement system. It uses 2 or 3 counter-rotating lobes to scoop a fixed amount of air from the outside and deliver it into the intake manifold. Unlike the compressors of the turbocharger and the centrifugal supercharger, which deliver exponentially greater boost with increased rpm and which are not designed to perform at lower rpm, a positive displacement supercharger pumps a fixed amount of air for every revolution, and delivers instant boost even at low rpm.

so are we literally talking about TRD actually releasing a V6 4.0 Bolt On SC?

!!!!!!!!! The SC will be available when the new Toyota truck comes out correct?

well...thats what I'm thinking.

I'm trying to understand what you guys are talking about when it comes to boost.

I'm a noob with engines and SC's.

Your saying its an efficient design being that the the SC will only kick in at a certain gear/RPM ratio? thus good for gas mileage and Engine life?

sorry if I sound like an idiot...but..I don't know much when it comes to this stuff.

Boost is the air pressure forced into the engine's intake by the supercharger. I think that the TRD superchargers keep the boost at 6psi know matter how many RPM the engine is turning. I think most superchargers very in the amount of boost based on what RPM the engine is turning. The more the RPM the more boost.

Maybe true. But at least TRD is making a supercharger for the V-6. I could of had a V-6 supercharged covered under warranty. Can't do that with the V-8.

Remember, Toyota warranty is only 3 years/36000 miles. If you are not planning to keep it that long, then go for it. However, if you plan on keeping it longer, then i strongly suggest that you get an extended warranty...one that will cover the engine even though you have a supercharger (this part may be difficult).

The tear-and-wear issues with a supercharger won't show up right away...and if it does show up, then it will likely be AFTER your warranty has run out.

Good luck.

The TRD supercharger does NOT affect gas mileage if you can keep your foot out of the gas pedal. That

This is toyota's warranty on the engine:
Powertrain: 60 months/60,000 miles (engine, transmission/transaxle, front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, seatbelts and airbags).

Good point. Hmm, that would make it more interesting. However, i would still hesitate...unless you don't plan to keep your truck past 60K miles.

Kind of true. Max boost pressure is controlled via the VSV/Solinoid(sp?) before the actuator which controls the bypass valve in the SC. At idle or at cruising when the vacuum is high the bypass valve is kept open. During load conditions e.g. you pressing on the gas for acceleration the valve closes. The boost pressure is not fixed and varies with how much you step on the gas as well as what rpms you are at.

If I accelerate modestly say 25% gas the boost pressure is 3psi, at 50% it hits 5psi and at WOT I get 7.0-7.5.

So point being the boost isn't fixed at a certain psi.

TRD needs to get their heads out of their ass and get back to making high performance parts instead of hats & coats.

I completely agree

Right now they are more like TD cause that "R" has vanished.

don't plan on that v6 SC from TRD. the one they built was an complete build, no bolt on....or looks of an acctual product. I had an 05 X-runner, and read all the claims of a SC but never saw anything but an un-realistic prototype. If your serious about the 4.0 v6 SC go talk with Gadget from www.urdusa.com. real products that bolt on and go
