i think that is the biggest plus on the touareg that fatty diesel engine.
but maintenance cost, reliability issues, resale value, and electrical problems.... its not worth the time to deal with. I would rather spend my time off-roading and modding up the 4runner.
biggest plus on the 4runner, being able to throw a demello or shockworks bumper and playing bumper cars :boxer::trophy:

The VW trolls coming in and saying that the Touareg is an offroad machine and the 4Runner is not is a nice touch. Lets see, body on frame vs unibody. Solid rear axle vs independent (great articulation ya'll got there!). Rock sliders, skids, bumpers, and overland equipment vs 20" wheels. I do not really need to go on. Face it, your competition is the Highlander, NOT the 4Runner. Now go get the groceries!

I'm gonna have to stick up for the Touareg. My parents own a 2011 Touareg tdi and it's really nice. I don't even think you can compare the two. There are things good and bad about both. For instance the Touareg hauls ass and still gets good mileage, something you can't say about a 4runner. My parents also tow our 6000lb boat with very little ease. The 4runner would be struggling to keep up. One thing I have noticed is how much more solid the Touareg is than my 4runner. Everything is well refined and not near as much cheap plastic as what Toyota does. We have taken the Touareg off road and although it doesent do as well as a 4runner due to clearance it does pretty darn good considering it's not made for off roading anymore and has street tires. Coming from a VW lover and Toyota lover you can not compare these vehicles. They are just not the same type of vehicle.

He never called out any particular year on the 4 Runner! As a matter of fact the links i sent in previous post from your own 4 Runner forums were for brand new models and early 2000 models. I have said it before and even you Toyota lovers have said it the 2 vehicles arent even in the same class of vehicle i dont know why the hell you guys even opened this forum to compare them!?!

LoL i never said that my Touareg was as you say "an offroad machine" but you guys are clearly out of your minds when you state all this crap you cant do with the Touareg or the options you cant put on them and whatever idiotic things that come from your fingertips as you type! The Touareg stock has more capability then your slightly modified 4 Runners. We have a locking diferential which i will take over your 4 Runner allllllll day long! Wait until your 4 Runner is on 2 or 3 wheels and you cant control your decline and slams down on the ground then you will appreciate the quality and engineering put into the VW! My stock air suspension that will cost you $7k to put on your 4 Runner. The only thing you have going for you is your ground clearance stock which i do wish i had more of. When your trying climb over rocks and your wheels spin because the engineering put into that 4 Runner is so limited and doesnt know hot to convert the torque to the other wheels so yup you have to back up and go back at it again where as the Touareg has an all independent wheel control which just pulls itself over.
Go find youtube videos where they compare the 4 Runner vs Touareg (cant find them? because they dont exist) but you will find Toureg vs the Hummer in offroad!

I strap off road tires and turn on my air ride and i will run right along with that 4 Runner sorry to burst your bubble! There is nothing special to your 4 Runner, you put a carry rack and lifted it a couple inches big deal.

I'll take our ATRAC and center locker over your vw any day. By the way, air suspension sucks a$$ offroad. That's why you always have a tire in the air, horrible articulation! But I'm sure it prevents hitting curbs at the mall and grocery store, so it's worth the money to you.

That's why I said any street legal toureg IE: modified.

And no you won't, a solid rear axle and true 4wd system are better offroad. There is nothing special to a toureg then if a 4r isn't special either.

Edit: I have MANY more mods than just a lift and roof rack btw.

he drives an 2002 4runner....so unless he chooses to drive it over say a newer runner and isnt telling anyone, or continually borrows someone else's newer one, i'd say my statement is fair. I owned an 01 runner b4 my 4th gen, and you can't compare the two. 4.7 v8 VS a small v6 with no high end.
My best friend is a VW cert mechanic and he will tell you to stay far far away from anything vw/audi. Why? because of electrical gremlins that will eat your time and/or money. Example, 3 yrs ago they had a customer with a new TT. Wouldn't start. sat in dealership garage for 6 mths, everyone tried their hand at it, even flew in master tech from Germany. Couldn't figure it out. Gave customer refund of value of car towards a new TT. Dunno about you, i would rather a truck based SUV, absolute tank in all conditions that 'slower' than the dub rather than put up with the 'unknown' that is always found in german cars. Particularly VW's.

One major thing a toyota has over a VW is that they START, unconditionally. Let's see what your air suspension and sweet interior can do for you on the side of the road in the winter. PS do you have to register your battery on the new tour-egg? That's a handsome 300-400 bucks if you are lucky at the stealership (which you HAVE to go to since they use a dealer specific comp database/scanner). Me? i spend $100 on a battery from the local store and drop it in, and drive away. Man, those sweet bells and whistles are sounding more and more like a novelty aren't they...

People here remove their stock air suspension systems, because it is not good off road. They replace them with proper coil setups, or in some cases, leaf springs.

Sounds like you are the one that needs to do the research. 4Runners have ATRAC. It senses wheel slip and applies the brakes to the slipping wheel, thereby converting torque to the other (non-slipping) wheel(s). It's a pretty well-engineered system, and works well. Stop posting your crap on our forum.

I wont take it from you, Toyotas are pretty reliable vehicles... But when you stoop to a re****ed state and make comments like "my Toyota with its tiny little engine is just as fast as the Touareg with a larger engine" and talk down on it for it, why dont you look at the weight comparison of the 2 vehicles 1st?! The VW weighs almost 1,200lbs more!!!! Now your talking about a car that has a bigger engine but only slightly more HP compared to the weight difference and it actually makes your Toyota look like crap. For the HP you do have in that Toyota it should be faster, but of course, being that its a Toyota its not fast. But hey you still have its reliability! The Touareg has far more off road capaibility then any Toyota minus the Land Cruiser that you spend $85,000+ for and had to special order lol.
You get what you pay for in the Touareg which is far more advanced than any Toyota will have in an SUV. I will also add that fixing my Touareg is pretty expensive but its a fix that once its done then its DONE. Not like a Toyota that the part will eventually wear out again. Toyotas have known issues with over heating even when properly maintained, the water pump will be replaced multiple times, cost you about $700 for the new pump, belt and shop fee. The suspension to Toyotas are horrible at best, parts wear out quickly on them. CV joints are very weak in them as well. Alignment needs to be done about every 6,000 miles because the top mount was cheaply designed. The list goes on and on with problems related to Toyota. Now, if you think im trash talking it because i own a Touareg you will be very very wrong, i trash talk it only because of the ignorance of some of the Toyota drivers. My mother in law has a newer Toyota 4 runner and has constant issues, nothing huge like engine or transmission but a lot of small annoying issues that i end up taking care of. The customer care is where there is a night and day difference! I have taken my Touareg to VW even out of warranty and they have taken care of some things for me, Toyota on the other hand you sometimes have to fight just to take care of items that are even in warranty. Im sure my thread will stir up a couple bees nest but thats ok because once you calm down and get off your high horse you will realize that i am right and not just talking out of my @$$ like some of these Toyota lovers in here.

HAHAHAHA you should have shut up at AZ the trails in AZ are garbage! I have been through AZ coming back from Utah which i took at the time my stock Touareg to do some hill climbing in Moab, whats funny is i didnt see a single 4 Runner that made it over the 2nd hill. Yup they all turned their ass back to the parking lot. Oh and all you guys bragging about your ATRAC system lol its a piece of sh*t they use it in the Tundra as well which Chevy, Nissan and Ford took a crap on. GEEZUS you Toyota owners really are idiots! I came in pointing out flaws on my Touareg, at least i have the sense of mind to admit my car has flaws but you dumb@$$es in here think that your Toyotas are birthed from Mnt Olympus!
