Hello everyone, im somewhat new to this forum. I currently drive a 05 4runner and recently after doing more night driving, i come to want HID's for many reasons. Better light, better color, etc. Im currently running sylvania ZXE or whatever theyre called and theyre supposed to be the whitest street legal halogen bulbs. (theyre shit. Looks no different then any other halogen bulb. However since the 05 runner uses reflectors, i pretty much have 4 choices
1- Retrofit
2- buying a 06-09 4runner headlight
3- Aftermarket Headlights
4- Just get HID's
For retrofitting, everyone says its hard and time consuming. I can see that ( i bought a Retrofit kit for my CBR from TRS, could not figure out how to install it and ended up returining it.)This is personally what i want to do so that i can keep my OEM headlights however after looking at TRS, there no real clear instructions on how to do it. The Kit i want from them runs about 600$ give or take and i was really close to buying it many times but i dont know how to set it up. Ive looked through every possible thread about retrofits for 4runners and none really explains how to do it and set everything up. Im 17, so i have no real experince with wiring or cutting/ trimming the headlights, etc and what makes it even worse is the lack of instructions. I dont want to start the project and mess it up or get stuck and have a car with no headlights. I know there are people or stores out there that can do it for you, but after paying 600$ idk if i even want to pay even more then that for someone to install.
As for 06-09 headlights, i read on some threads that they fit but theres a gap, but the shape of the headlight is different. WOuld it fit with the grill, and what would the gap look like? Does anyone have pictures of this, and what materials and how would i set it up?
As for Aftermarket headlights, i dont think they'll be as good as the OEM, and some are just plain ricey. Personally this would probably be my last choice.
Lastly, im really against just putting HIDs on reflectors. My dad use to have it on this 4runner (before he gave it to me) and we would always get highbeamed. However, i see alot of people in the area with HID's on reflectors. If nothing else works out, this will probably be what i do.
All in all, i just want some adivice on what to do. If there are any threads for retrofitting 4th generation 4runners WITH STEP BY STEP instructions, please post them. If theres any good after market projector headlights, please recommend it to me, or if anyone has information about the 06-09 headlights please enlighten me. Thank you all
