I have a Wilco HitchGate that I modified to carry my RotoPax gas containers.
This way I don't modified my T4R and can put it back to stock configuration when I don't need the extra gas/spare.
Very cool setup that I have never seen before. How is is holding up? Does it take away a lot from your departure angle?

It's done well with the traveling I do. My truck has stock suspension and tires so I don't do any wild off-roading. It does limit the departure angle, but mostly use it to travel to hiking and camping destinations.
I guess I never see Rotopaxs as jerry cans..... to me, Rotopaxs are Rotopaxs, they are not Jerry Cans!
I put "real" jerry cans on my roof rack....

Used to carry jerry cans on my Land Rover - The 4Runner gets insanely better mileage compared to it so have yet to need to carry any extra fuel.....

Can anyone share experience or ideas on how to mount a 2 stack gas rotopax on a Thule cargo basket (Load Warrior to be exact). I see they sell a backing plate to go with their single mounting plate but I am not sure 1) either is wide enough to cover across two bars 2) that it can secure tight enough not to move since the bars are round. I've seen it on Gobi racks but their deck is mesh. Appreciate ideas.

Got a triple can holder. Usually go two gas one water on trips. Might pick up a Rotopax for the roof for a little extra fuel.
I've found that 3 Nato/Scepter cans fit nicely behind the driver's seat, with the seat base folded forward. Strapped down tightly with the carseat/seat mounting points.
Weight is right in the middle of the truck for distribution, and down low for center of gravity.
Yes...I do store fuel inside, using NATO cans (No fumes or leaks). I think the last time I took fuel was when I was going into Mexico during a fuel price hike, and there was some question of availability.
Scepter plastic cans for water.
That being said, I've seldom needed extra fuel, given the general economy of the 4Runner.
Best mod I've done is making a 12V RV faucet pump that is integrated into a Scepter lid...plugged into the rear center console 12v....turn on the faucet to fill from the water can.
