***********************************************************************************

I just bought a 97 4runner limited 4x4 yesterday and I have a few plans for it, so I thought I'd post the progress here. I will be using it to hunt, fish, surf, camp, and wheel. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I know the drill.

Looks like a Texas plate, so I'm gonna go on a limb and say somewhere near Houston-ish? Nice, clean looking rig btw!

Update: Day 3

Last night I took off the grill guard, and this morning I took off the running boards. I also bought some bed liner, a leather repair kit, and 2 windshield repair kits. Tomorrow it gets an oil change. Thanks for the comments, I'm pretty happy with my new rig!

I had a buddy come look at it tonight, and he said he thought I had a 2" body lift. I just got the 4runner and I know nothing about it, but I agree that it sits pretty high. I can see up under it without having to squat down. What do you think?

My previous build in the background, now in the hands of my little brother.

I'm impressed. They sit up pretty high for stock. Took off the tail light guards last night, and ordered my Monroe rear lift-gate shocks!

Thanks for the comments!

Tires

What's the largest size tire I can run stock?

Just kidding. I'm going to discount tire hopefully Wednesday to get my new Hankook Dynapro all-terrain tires in 265/75/16. I think I'm going to take a before and after shot to show how it stacks up with the stock size. Maybe mount a camera with tripod in one spot, and put duct tape on the ground where I park so I can show precisely how much clearance is achieved over stock. I will also be deciding on a place to inexpensively store my new hog gun: 870 express.

P.S.
(1.) monroe lift gate shocks are awesome and

(2.) the chrome trim will be replaced with bed-liner after school gets out and I have some free time. Write-up possible on request, as I have done this multiple times on my Tundra.

Future Plans

Pretty much whatever I'm going to need in order to get to where I need to go with all my gear.

I might need a winch and a hitch mounted cargo carrier, although I like the rear bumper design that holds a gas tank and spare tire. I'll probably get new springs to hold the added weight and give it some lift for the 265/75/16's I was talking about. I'll also get rid of the fake chrome.

This build will be based on the purpose driven concept of "whatever works", and these plans are subject to change.

Not really sure that the pictures do it justice. It's a very noticeable difference in ride height and in comfort.

I'm quite giddy because I already have my next DIY project lined up!

Took me some time in the search function to find out that this wire is not used. Thank you, t4r.org.
