So I normally try to warm up car so it’s not freezing before I get my daughter in the car. Noticed that the mpg gauge shows a pretty big loss of mpg letting it warm up. Like 1 full mpg with a couple of minute warm up. Just curious if anyone else has noticed? I am surprised it dumps that much fuel warming up.

Yep, all vehicles are like that. Idle time is factored into economy.
Never noticed, probably because i never look at that gauge. I think it's useless/not accurate and usually hand calculate mileage.
But that said, anytime your vehicle is running it's going to effect mileage. I'm sure long warmups will effect mileage over the course of the entire tank of gas. You would have to run a whole tank with no warmups and then a whole tank with warmups to determine how much it effects mileage.

It’s not that it’s using a lot of fuel,
It’s that it’s adding zero mpg/time in to the average. Adding zero points in any average calculation is going to skew results toward zero
Don’t sweat the average mpg in wintertime. There’s plenty of factors that make it less than ideal. Winter gas, warming up, 4x4, slightly lower tire pressure...

yeah that is pretty much what it is. Just warming up the inside for my daughter.
