WARNING! Brakes, ABS, loud annoying warning noise....

Well, it's -22 below zero here in duluth. And has been brutal cold for a couple weeks straight. About a week ago, i heard a whistling/air (i think) noise coming from the area around my brake pedal. When i touched the brakes, it stopped. About a mile down the road the red WARNING! BRAKES light came on along with a loud constant warning noise, the abs light and the other traction and stability control lights. It's been an on and off thing, but I noticed at a red light when it happened again...there was thunk coming from the front of the vehicle. And also, I'm pretty sure the left front caliper is frozen.

Any thoughts? I'm getting the caliper replaced this week, but should I have anything else replaced? Is my abs system shot?

Any insight will be very much appreciated.

Did you check under the hood to see if any weird noises were coming from your brake booster?

Best to check your brake fluid level - could be a leak!

Thanks for the link and response. I've kept an eye on the reservoir and it hasn't gone down at all. And the brakes do seem to work fine. Minus the left front not closing as it should. But that has been sticky since i bought it. Also, when I sit at a stop with my foot on the brake, I can feel a surge through the brake pedal. It happens about every 5-10 seconds. Almost like the abs pump is trying to do its thing...only I'm already stopped. I can't hear anything from under the hood...probably because the engine is running. And in the truck...All I hear is the ear piercing high pitch warning noise. Anyone know what I can do to stop the noise? I'm betting it the same unit that creates the noise for every warning in the truck. Sounds the same as the beep that occurs when the truck in trying to engage into 4 low. Or when you get the truck sliding and the VSC kicks in. I love ya Toyota...but that beep is not necessary.

Booster noise

I've had this loud squeak when the booster energizes after applying the brakes. I managed to make it go away for about 4months after performing the zero point calibration, but it recently came back. Any help would be great.

Reviving an old thread - our 2003 4runner recently started doing this same thing - a loud alarm sounding from somewhere inside the dash.

Brakes are also not firm - could it be some sort of alarm saying the booster is bad?

After further googling, it looks like my brake booster servo motor might be bad, i will look into that and post the results in case others have this issue.
