Warning to anyone that wants 20's

I have been dealing with unbalabaceable 20" Panther Vectors. Thse rims are very hot and get may compliments on them at red lights. When I hit 55mph the steering wheel has major vibration. After getting them ballanced 4 times Cliffs Driect Effect in MD decied that they cannot be balabced and that something is wrong with the wheels. This is there actuall response..

Please let me know your thoughts...

Hi John.. Finally spoke to the manager this morning. He said the only thing he would be able to do is for me to dismount the wheels and box them up, call him when I'm ready and he will send out a call tag to have them shipped back to the manufacturer in an attempt to deam them defective. I asked him about replacing them and he said he wouldnt advise replacing with the same wheel b/c he is still feeling that it could a fact of putting a larger wheel on your truck. I let him know that its only thru a certain range and such.
So I will leave you with the option of: I'd be more then happy to have you come in and pick out a new wheel all together or I can reorder the same wheel but if they have the same problem I will not be able to send them back a second time.

I'm no mechanic, but I'd say you can go ahead and stick with your 20's.
If they can slap 22's and larger on Escalades, they can put 20's on a 4Runner.

Just look at how many people on here have 20's. Some even have 22's and I haven't seen many postings besides yours complaining about the balancing or vibrations.

I rolled on the Enkei Deep 6 20's that came off my dad's Sequoia Limited (as pictured on my profile). Rode fine on his truck but when installed on my truck, it was shaky as hell. Dealer and tire place both confirmed that my Runner (3rd gen) could not support the weight of 20's and therefore it is advised not to change to anything bigger than 18's if you want to preserve the factory smooth ride.

That's that. I never went back to 20's ever since.

p.s. They looked sharp on my truck though..got lots of compliments.

I have stock rims and tires and a few months back I had a terrible shake in the steering wheel while on the freeway. The dealership thought my tires were unbalanced but turns out some damper spring in the steering wheel was out of whack. So they fixed it and I got a new steering column and steering wheel. Don't know if this could be happening to you but just a thought. Anybody else have this happen to their 4runner.

I'd send them back! Sure seems like you got some defective wheels, get another set and try again!

Definitely send them back, but if you think quality of that wheel brand is an issue, don't reorder the same ones. There's thousands of wheel designs out there, so you can probably find a similar looking wheel from a more reputable company. And if it's not the wheels, then maybe the company you bought them from needs to check their balancing machine. There are some specially designed for the larger wheels, so perhaps what they have isn't up to the task.

they were Road Forced balanced on the $17000 tire balancer with is suspose to be the best out there and if that machine cannot balance the wheels then there is something wrong with the wheels themself. I am going to get something else but the thing is I want the Black/Mirror finish and there are only a handful of that type rim...I may have to get a chrome rim and get it painted black..

If you do go this route, you may want to think about a polished rim and then have it powder coated black. The polished rims are normally cheaper than the chrome.

yes it is a defect in the rims and yes no matter where you put thm it is really bad...

yea those are my favorite too, and i like the 3rd ones too.

you could get the foose ones and paint the raised parts black and leave the lower parts chrome or some sort of combination, just a thought.

Hi, I have some 22's on mine 06, and the ride is just smooth. I've gone 90+mph( i know...only once or twice) and no vibrations at all. Matter of fact, I love the ride on these tires than stock, because I was in(still am) to drag/road race and I didn't like the wobbly/bubbly feeling of the stock tires. I'd suggest a new reputable wheels/tires combination to avoid those problems. Other than the problems, your truck look tight. Keep the shoes 20+inches!
