I just got back from Moab myself. The White Rim trail was truly awesome.

Thanks Definitely worth at least a full 10 day trip if you can if you go only one, SO many different areas and to see and explore.

The drawers and little table worked great the entire trip. all small tools and camping utensils and gear right there when I needed it. The tiedowns worked great, Fridge did not budge one bit. Lastly, the bed also worked great, was a little worried about sleeping in the smaller space but it was no problem at all.

The 3.5 inch REI camp pad was super awesome, and about half way through the trip I figured out how to stow it and re-deploy it in seconds between uses.

Here is the bedding "down". (When sleeping I was careful to not let the blankets block up the fridge vents, but I think I may need to make some kind of little barrier to prevent them from falling against the vents...)


Then when it came time to pack up and hit the trail, I let a little air out of the mattress, then folded everything in half and used a bungie running under the platform extension to hold the bedding in place.

I then re-placed the food bin, water jug and a couple other items from the front seats back onto the platform and tied them down for offroading. Then at camp, the reverse again.


Er.. yes things got a bit dirty after 4 days but it all vacuumed up and looks all nice and new again now

Wait ?!?! You have to reserve camps sites at White Rim???? I thought you can just go there and camp.

I have never camp done this type of camping. I'm use to gucci camping. Didn't know you have reserve a spot or camp site.

The re are a LOT of places arpund moab where you can camp first come first served. But anyplace in the national monuments snd parks require reservations. So anyplace in Canyonlands or Arches or Dead Horse need reservations. White Rim is entirely in Canyonlands.

Sooooooo...

I don't /really/ need a new project right now but. After the last trip I was sort of pining for a more full bumper. Just, something I can use to bump into a rock or cliff face if needed without worrying too much about the front fender/lights being the first thing to contact the wall.

Given that I also kind of feel like a goof for buying expensive bumpers when I SHOULD be making them since I have all the tools to do so. I've been thinking about what it would take to extend my SSS slimline bumper to cover more of the front.

The slimline bumper is a great base already, with hidden winch mount and everything. All I'd have to do is add some more metal and bracing on the sides!

SO last night I took a recent picture and photoshopped up a couple of possible designs from the front.

First. As it is now:


The minimal approach. Low bumper but high enough for my typical rock climbing limits. Top of bumper goes just under the built in fog lights.


Med height. Top of bumper goes to just the top of the current fog lights.


Top height. Top of goes to the top of the plastic bumper cover at the wheel well.



Leaning towards the low or medium ideas... Overall I still want to keep it light as possible and look nice with the current front end. SO no over the top hoops or anything

I'd say low. If you're gonna go medium or high you may as well drop the lower half of the nose and really go to town. I would have loved a pre-runner style bumper, but I just can't figure out how to incorporate it into that nose......

I dig the bigger ones, the smaller one looks a little goofy, but the other two look mean! good luck with it

I vote for the smaller one, but the other two still look good on the truck. Just a matter of preference I suppose.

The middle one is probably the best. Though it may be worth mocking up the smaller one IRL with black cardboard to see for sure, but, yeah, it may look a bit like a toy offroad bumper

I like the mid-bumper. Seems to give the natural lines the proper flow + looks a little more functional overall.

I agree, half way between the low and mid would be perfect probably, the problem is the darn fog lights :/ Would have to remove them and then there'd be a hole there that would be hard to deal with
