Wash Time?

how long does it take everyone to wash and wax?
or whatever else detailing each individual person does... (clay, etc.)

I've learned clear coat paint is very easy to scratch and it can easily happen when just washing and drying. I used to use a chamois, but have traded it in for Microfiber towels. Also, I only use the clay 3 times and toss it. Trying to use it too long can expose your paint to the accumulated crud inside it like sand paper and scratch the heck out of your paint.

:iagree: This is so true! I use the absorber for drying and haven't had any problems. But you do need to toss that clay. Especially if you drop it.

I have two replies to that:
1. It is only a car.
2. I go to those hand car washes.

For me, I dread washing it, it takes me 2 1/2 hours just to wash and clean the insides (vacuum and interior) and dress the tires. and this is without waxing or anything else!

wax? sorry i have no clue what that is i'm either too lazy or too tired to wax my 4runner. plus i wouldn't even know where to start! lol now if someone wants to teach me by doing the first job on my 4runner for me i'd gladly watch and learn (over and over and over and over.)

in all seriousness, i think my 4runner gets too dirty too quickly for me to keep in waxin. guess i'll just have to fork out the dough to someone to get it done atleast once a year eh..

This is more or a question than a comment, but I just surfed around on autotopia.com for the first time tonight, and read that you should frequently shake out and fold over your microfiber buffing towels to prevent scratching your coat with dried wax particles. How does the buffer not just concentrate dried wax on the pad? It seems like you would have to change pads frequently or do harm. If I'm wrong, then I need one so I don't have spaghetti arms, because I didn't think you could avoid it.

i'm either too lazy or too tired to wax my 4runner.

That is why I like the Zaino products, they are so much less work than a carnuba wax.
