Omega Seamaster Professional Planet Ocean. Like stated by Ol'Blue Everyman should own one good watch. That's what my wife said and she bought this for my 40th.

You may not want to spend more than $700 for a watch...but how much is all your (potential) watches adding up? Your Citizen is $300 or so (forgot exact amount) + $700 for Mr. Ward's watch(es) + whatever you fancy down the road with this new passion! I am a watch lover, but i don't "collect" them. I aim for the one that i want the most and buy it...and never look back. Because if you don't go for something uber nice, eventually you will spend more overall on lesser watches.

You want a nice sports watch? Get one. Spend (or wait till you have enough) to get a really nice one...like Omega Seamaster with the 8500 caliber. Yeah, it costs a pretty penny, but you buy ONE in your lifetime and forget about ever needing to look around for something better.

Just my opinion. Good luck in your searches.

Looking for a classy diver with deep blue face (as dark as possible) that is affordable ($300-700). By classy I mean less busy and can be worn anywhere including a professional/business environment.

Ugh! Who started this thread anyway? Never had a single solitary thought about watches til I started reading this. Now it's all I read about and research.

I NEVER thought I would want an expensive watch becuase I always thought for thousands of dollars I could by something I could ride, fly, or jump. Then my wife started me looking because she said she wanted to buy one for me for my 40th. I NEVER even noticed peoples watches before she started talking about it.

In the beginning I couldn't tell you the difference between a $5000 watch and a $50 watch. Then I really started paying attention and I didn't even notice that I have several friends that are watch WHORES... like 5 to 10 NICE watches. Paneri, Breitling, Omega, Rolex etc...

Once I started looking I realized that the watch thing is like a cult, and then I realized what really went into making a watch and can now understand why they cost what they do. It not only is an art and a science, but it is the equivalant of a diamond ring for men. Women like big diamonds, men like watches.

I would not do this! Unfortunately, there have been more than a few cases (that i have read) about people taking advantage of Costco's return policy and lack of expertise. They buy a nice watch...then buy a nice Chinese counterfeit, and then return the fake watch to Costco for a full refund. Costco then puts it back on display for the next unsuspecting customer. There is also a question where Costco gets these watches...are they returned items from authorized dealers...and thus may not be in the best of shape and/or function??

In addition, just remember that Costco is NOT an authorized dealer for high-end watches, like Tag and Omega.

A lot of times, you can go to an Authorized dealer and haggle and get the same discount as if you went to Costco. (Rolex dealer is the exception here since discounts are hard to come by.)

Actually, you Omega owners/fans better buy your Omega from private mom-n-pop's authorized dealers soon! Omega will soon go the Rolex route by eliminating discounts and only giving big national chain dealers their watches. In addition, with Omega boutiques being put up everywhere, this means that you may have to go to these boutiques to buy high end Omega watches...and these boutiques give no discounts.

I am, and I get what Thai said, but I'll still go look at them.

I'd rather get a few $300-800 watches than just one or two NICE watches so that I have them for different occasions and situations. I've been finding them very interesting and fun to research and learn about but I can assure you that I will not get that deep into the "cult". I'll never be THAT interested to spend thousands upon thousands. Thats not how I roll. I have other interests that far outweigh watches and I don't see that changing.

I also don't like worrying about the abuse during my at-times chaotic NY commute. Kind of why I traded my BMW for my 4Runner after only 6 months of ownership - so I could stop worrying about every pothole and cracking rims. Now I can relax and enjoy.

Additionally, I held my Citizen (Citizen Men's CA0020-56E Eco Drive Titanium Watch: Watches: Amazon.com) next to a colleagues gorgeous blue-faced Tag and it looked just as stunning. I really like the professional look of this watch and it cost me $265 for a $450 watch.

Add up what you plan on buying (several $300-800 watches)...and then cost compare that to having your Citizen and ONE nice high end automatic watch.

Whether you like it or not, you are ALREADY in the cult with the way that you're drooling over all these watches!!!

Remember, a nice automatic watch (e.g. Omega) is more than just about telling time or how nice the color is. This is why i always go back to my Rolex...it provides me with something that my Seiko Kinetic cannot...a self-perpetuating "beating" heart that does not require any form of transistor...all by moving gears. So, yeah, i take my Seiko out for gun ranges or physical activity because it can take a heavy beating (like your Citizen) and is uber lightweight (like your Citizen). But, for everything else, i wear my Rolex Turn-o-graph because it fits in every occasion (formal or informal) and its beating heart is just so damn interesting on my wrist!

Like you, several years ago, i was buying all sorts of watches...but i soon realize how much i was spending in total. I realize that it was not worth it. I then took the plunge to get two holy grails of mine. I wanted a Seiko Kinetic that is practical...thus, i got the Seiko that i have now. I also wanted a nice watch that i will keep forever, and possibly hand it down to my kids. But, it must be very nice...reliable (relatively speaking)...and it must be an everyday watch, not just for billionaire parties. I have a fairly small wrist...so, that was another requirement...i am not into BIG watches on small wrist. Therefore, i chose my Rolex. It wasn't cheap...but then again, i am not always looking on the net for my next watch purchase nor do i salivate in front of watch stores.

Just my experience.

I get it and completely respect your perspective but the one thing I find so interesting is all the shapes, sizes, and colors out there so I'd probably be a bit more spontaneous in my buying. If something shouts out to me then I'll grab it.

The Christopher Ward C11 Makaira is a perfect example. It's a very different watch that I didn't see before. One day I hate it, next day love it.

Hey, I'll likely end up with a high end watch at some point to signify something special in life, but if it happens it'll only be one. I'd rather maintain that spontaneity and shop for a few lesser ones that you come across that "I gotta have" and buy without much angst.

Sorry but my advice is to pass on it. I don't remember exactly but Omega chronographs are not reliable... known to have issues. You may want to ask Omega forum. Their new 9300 calibers are the ones to have, but very expensive.

Ugh!......I bow to you all in disgrace and lay down my sword.....I'm doing exactly what I said I wouldn't.....my integrity is lost.....I saw this Tag at a local brand-name jeweler today at a nice price of $1900 for a $2850 watch brand new Aquaracer, fell in love, and had them set it aside for purchase tomorrow..... It's a Tag Aquaracer Calibre 5 500m.

I'd appreciate your thoughts and feedback. It's the one on the left.....
