water in engine?

I really have no idea what to call this problem so here i go

Went driving around through some puddles on the side of the road with the kids while it was raining this morning. Went through one that was about a foot deep or so goin about 15 mph and then noticed a reasonable loss of power right after. I could only give it a little gas to go but if i gave too much she would start to choke like the engine was drowning or something. Almost no acceleration at all, managed to get her into second and just barely made it back to the house (helped since i lived mostly downhill ) Any ideas?

I'd start by drying off all spark plugs wires/plug boots and the distributor/igniter. Remove distributor cap and dry out in there too. If its been years since you replaced cap and plug wires do it now with OEM ones. Remove and check the air cleaner. If water got in engine thru FI - its called hydrolock and it can bend connectiong rods/pistons and generally just trash the whole engine -- that's why you see snorkels on off road vehicles that frequently ford streams.
