Water Leaking in

Im having water coming in from the plastic underneath the windshield on the driver side. It leaks down and onto my driver side floor mat. Before I start ripping everything apart, I was curious If anyone has had this issue before. I plan on tackling it tomorrow on my day off. Ill post some pics.

Many of us first-gen owners have leaks because of rusted metal around the windshield. The trim around the windshield is purely cosmetic and catches and traps dirt and moisture and keeps it moist in there, promoting rust. Yours should be no different.

If you want quick but robust fix, Clean rusted area, paint, then patch leak with Sika urethane, the stuff they use to attach the windshield.

If you want a clean and robust solution, be prepared to have glass removed, do some rust repair, repaint and have glass re-installed. This is what I did on mine, and I did not have trim re-installed for above reason, like one thing that Jeep did better than Toyota.

Check the wire-harness rubber grommet on the fire wall next to the brake booster. If someone ran wires through it, they might have pierced/cut open it and that is where it can leak. I found my 97 4R and an 03 tacoma with the same issue: Affix a rubber flap above it to the fire wall to divert the water over it... problem solved!

I have a leak in the drivers side on my one 4R. I am going to investigate that rubber grommet. I think my lip on the driver side windshield is gone hence my one leaks. But I will very this grommet. Thanks for the tip.:)
