Water pump labor

Just called a shop and got quoted 5 hours for labor to replace my w/p for my 3.slow surely this is not a 5 hour job

According to Mitchell, it really is, with air conditioning. Without air, it's 4.5 hours. That's looking up a 2nd Gen with a 3.0 V6.

5 hours is about right, if you've done it before. The water pump on the 3.0 is driven by the timing belt, so there is quite a bit that has to be removed to get to it. I'd have the timing belt and idler's replaced at the same time the pump is done. I just did mine and it cost me about 2 bills for the parts.

you ever done a water pump under a timing belt? its significant. a practiced pro might get er done in 5 hours.

I think of it more in seasoned terms. like "by Spring time, easy"

It might take them 5 hours to do the pump, but should only take a minute or so to kick you out of the shop for whining about them making a living. I never cease to get a rise from people who don't or won't or can't do a modest repair but suddenly become efficiency experts when presented w/ the estimate.

Yes it is 5 years. A seasoned mechanic will get it done in 4 ish probably but if the book says 5 he gets paid 5 it's called flat rate. Buying an old truck you have to expect to pay for fixes.
