Hey guys my mom's 2007 4Runner has the water pump light on as well as the vsc trac light on. She was told by the dealer last week that the pump was showing signs of leaking. My question is I'm taking the 4Runner to my mechanic to get the water pump replace( way cheaper than at the stealership) the shop is 20 miles away, would it be a problem to drive it for those 20 miles with the light on?? Any danger of driving it like that??? Also do you think the vsc is light is on because of the water pump light??? Thanks

Water pump light? You mean check engine? Or coolant light?
First of all you need to find out what the actual code is that is causing the check engine light to come on. The dealer should have given you that information. If they didn't, stop by Autozone or similar and have them read the code. Better still, buy an OBDII reader for $20 and be able to do it yourself. Simple OBDII readers are too cheap not to have one.
To my knowledge a leaking water pump alone will not light the check engine light. Low coolant level might.
The VSC light often comes on when the check engine light comes on, because Toyota disables the VSC when the engine is in "limp" mode, due to changed dynamics of the engine-vehicle relationship.
If the water pump is leaking, you need to get it fixed. As long as it's just a slow leak and you can maintain adequate coolant level for the 20 miles to the shop there is no problem with driving it there.

Actually the check engine light just turned on this morning, the coolant does look low. Anyhow I'm gonna take it to my mechanic on Friday since the water pump arrives tomorrow.
Hopefully you have an OEM pump coming. I and many others have had issues with the aftermarket pumps leaking after only a few thousand miles. I had to replace the gates pump I used only after 3,000 miles, bought an OEM pump and haven't had any issues in the year/10,000 miles since installed. Replace the drive belt while your at it, too.
Not fun having to replace that pump twice in two months...
