We Did It! Switches Installed With Dash Light Diming Feature w/ Pics!

It took a ton of research and a huge leap of faith, but we solved the issue of hooking the dash lights up to our switches. After reading horror stories about blowing out control units and getting no real definitive answers to exactly which wires to tie our switch lights into, we finally figured it out.

The dash on these new 4Runners comes apart surprisingly easy.


It may look complicated but it really isn't.


This is how we hooked up our brand of switch.


Splicing into the dash lights.


After making up our own wiring harness it was a simple "plug-n-play".


It works!!!

Quick question: Do you have a rough estimate on the supplies used for making the fuse/relay panel and the switch panel? I'm trying to figure out the best route on whether its more economic this route vs the SPOD/switch pros. Thanks!

All together with the tray included and all the little stuff; probably just over $300. One issue we ran into buying from Waytek Wire is they have minimum quantities on parts like connectors and terminals. I'm guessing for price the SPOD is your best value but, for us anyways, we prefer the customization that comes with building our own.

I think I came in around 250. I didn’t have to buy the harness as I got it from a friend. You can also buy a few on amazon. Wire is another story

The spod is a close bet buy it also allows you to dim the led which I thought was super cool
