Weather stripping problem

My weather stripping has come loose and howls going down the highway if the wind hits it just right. Went to NAPA and bought some yellow weather strip adhesive. I pulled part of the weather stripping and the channel of the weather stripping and the body was covered in a greyish goo. It wasn't sticky at all. It almost had a greasy feel to it.

I cleaned it off the body and the channel with mineral spirits the best I could. If this doesn't work, short of replacing with new weather stripping and taking off all the interior panels surrounding the window and cleaning the body, any other suggestions?
