this weekend I plan to change the fluids on my '96 4Runner (3.4L V6 5VZFE engine with 5-speed manual transmission) and lubricate the drive shaft; please review my maintenance plan and feel free to offer constructive criticism and make any helpful suggestions:
1) engine: Mobil 1 synthetic 5W30 motor oil, ~5.5 qts with genuine oem Toyota #3614 filter
2) power steering: Dexron III automatic transmission fluid
3) brakes: Valvoline full synthetic DOT 3 brake fluid
4) air filter: factory Toyota oem
5) spark plugs & wires:
driver side - DENSO K16TR11 dual-electrode
passenger side - NGK BKR5EKB-11
6) coolant: factory Toyota oem red super long life
7) 5-speed transmission: Redline MT-90 75W-90 GL-4, ~2.3 qts
- use 24mm crescent wrench and six-point 24mm socket
8) front differential: Mobil 1 synthetic 75W-90, ~1.2-1.5 qts
- drain plug = 10mm hex key (48 ft-lbs), crush washers (x2) = 9043024003
- fill plug = six-point 12mm socket (29 ft-lbs)
9) rear differential: Mobil 1 synthetic 75W-90, ~2.6-3.0 qts
- drain plug = six-point 12mm socket (36 ft-lbs), crush washers (x2) = 1215710010
- fill plug = six-point 24mm (or 15/16") socket
10) transfer case: Mobil 1 synthetic 75W-90, ~1.1-1.5 qts
- use six-point 24mm socket
- crush washers (x2) = 9043018008
{would it be okay to use the same Mobil 1 75W-90 for the diffs in the transfer case?}
{in the diffs, should I use Redline 75W90NS GL-5 limited slip instead of Mobil 1 synthetic?}
11) drive shaft: I initially thought I should follow the factory recommendation to use NLGI #2 lithium-based chassis grease on the U joints and then NLGI #2 molybdenum disulfide-based grease on the slide yoke and double cardan joint, but now I plan to simply use either Lucas Oil green grease or Mobil 1 synthetic grease or Royal Purple synthetic grease or Amsoil synthetic multipurpose NLGI #2 GC/LB for everything.... thoughts?
finally, I plan to also clean the throttle body, as well as mass air flow (MAF) sensor cleaner too...
