weighing options about doing a 22re swap in place of 3.0

hey everyone got a few questions about swapping a 22re in my 4runner from the 3.0 with an auto transmission

I bought a 3.0 with a blown head gasket and I have been weighing options about re-doing the head gasket or swapping engines.

I don't have the money go with the 3.4 or a chevy 4.3 or anything like that.

I keep hearing horror stories about the 3.0 and don't want to spend all this money on doing the head gasket and everything else I will end up doing in the process for a engine that has issues

My buddy has a 22re with a 5speed transmission he will sell me for 400 bucks. so im considering buying it and do the swap.

Im just trying to decide if its worth it, if its a lot more work then im thinking ect.

I know I will have the replace the radiator and get a different transfercase. is there anything else I would need for this swap?

or do you think im better off just reading the head?

Not worth the effort, unless you know what you're doing and really really like the 22RE. It's not just a matter of a different radiator, you'll have to fab new motor mounts and the crossover for the tcase, and you'll have to be really really good with wiring.

The 3.0 blows gaskets for two reasons - bad head bolt torque settings from the factory, and the exhaust crossover that comes a little too close to the head and cooks the gasket. If you're replacing the head gaskets you'll presumably correct the bad torque, and the crossover dealio can be fixed with a set of aftermarket headers, or even a couple thick wraps of exhaust tape in the right spot. I wouldn't be afraid of repairing and using a 3.0 motor, assuming the power is enough for you.

yeah ive been thinking about it and your right its not worth my time, just going to do the headgaskets on it and run it

There is no point in downgrading. Put in a good 3VZ. They are not bad if they are cared for. Sluggish- yes, but any early 90's truck V6 was.

My 3vze has 222000 miles on it. One headgasket at 67000. For a motor that gets such a bad rap I think mine is doing well. I would fix it.
