My 1996 limited auto with 70k miles is having a medium/hard push problem everytime when it is first stopped while my foot still on the brake pedal or when my foot releases the brake pedal at the stop sign or traffic light. It only happens at the complete stop. what is causing the problem? please let me know? tia

sorry i just don't know how to describe it any better. all i know is that every time i stepped on the brake to stop the car, at the very end of the braking process like you thought the car would stop like it should be, but then it gave a push just hard enough that i have to put more pressure to my foot onto the pedal again to have it stop completely. btw, my foot was firm on the the pedal like it should be when stopping the car before the push thing happens. any idea? tia

Sounds like there is a Vaccum leak somewhere. Might be the brake booster. If that is bad when you brake it leaks out the vaccum and makes the pedal hard. Basically no power assist at the end of the stop. Also try checking your transmission fluid and see if it is still full. If that is bad then when you brake it might throw all the fluid forward and the trans might slip out of gear and slip back in.
