I recently had a squeak in reverse, too. (99 3.4 2wd).
Found out It was the rear u joint (the one at the rear axle). It would barely move by hand with the driveshaft removed.
I wound up replacing the entire driveshaft with one from a junkyard 97 for $50. He'll of a lot easier than banging out old rusted ujoints, and a whole lot cheaper than paying a shop. According to the ODO, it had nearly 70k less miles than mine.
Now no more squeak, less vibrations, and no thunk when letting off the gas at freeway speeds.
