Weird Vibrations

Long story short I went mudding/trailing at my friends farm with tons of Georgia clay. I came home with no rear brakes and some intense shaking. I have talked with some friends and they think maybe something bent but I didn't hit anything hard. The vibration is coming from the rear of my 4runner, 1998 SR5 2wd. Any ideas of what this could be?

I would start small and check the inside of your wheels for caked on mud/clay. I've gotten some pretty serious vibrations at highway speeds from clay getting my wheels out of balance. As for the brakes, I'm not too sure.

Everything is clean :boom: thanks for the help though… this could be an expensive fix!

Check to make sure your drive shaft is tight. Family member of mine had intense vibration at like 67 and up and it was due to a slightly lose drive shaft.

I've had bad vibrations once up to speed due to caked mud in the wheels. Another time, no mud but rocks, I got some vibes once off the trail and back on the road. Somewhere on the trail I ripped off some wheel weights on one wheel.

Mud although soft can cause some issues. With another vehicle in mud all day I cracked an aluminum rim. I had a slow leak, took it in and they said I had mud and dirt between the rim and bead. After having it dismounted and remounted it continued. After closer inspection and a week of a slow leak we found a crack in the rim.

Give everything a good looking over and clean everything off. Check for for something as easy (and expensive) as the harmonic balancer on the transmission. If it's gone you'll have vibrations.

Ok I need to check all of those. Thanks for the help!

Was just going to agree with them and say check check your drivline and the U joint. I drove about 600 miles at 70 MPH with a snapped U joint barely holding on. Would shake horribly. Glad you got it figured out
