Well... I got rear ended today, but....

Once it's all said and settled, start a hot yoga practice and continue for the next few years.

Twice a month keeps me nimble and minimizes the after effects of broken neck and an acl surgery.
Are the effects of injury very prevalent even after a long time?

I have USAA. Someone else hit my 4runner while parking a while back, and they were nice enough to leave a note with their contact info and have their insurance (Geico or Progressive, I think) pay for the damage. USAA was fairly unhelpful about explaining the process of making a claim either with USAA or with the other party's insurance. I ended up settling with their insurance, and the amount they gave me for the damage was fair. I didn't even get it fixed since it is so small.

Everything I've heard about USAA is generally positive, but they are not perfect. To me it's worth using them even if I could probably pay a little less with another company.

It is frustrating that no one ever explains how to handle an accident, insurance claim, etc. You just have to figure it out as you go.

Interesting.. Seems like there's no Good insurance company.

And yes, I'm extremely stressed out trying to figure out how this all works, as this is my first time even dealing with an accident. Doesn't even help that my friends don't even know what to do (good for them though). It's just a piss off trying to figure every little thing out, one step at a time, and it could result in me making a bad mistake.

Oh yes I did...I did not want to do it but was forced to, because we actually pay for it in all reality but I was out a lot of cash and a two month old 4Runner I was bummed out about the truck being a total loss, the guy that hit me was texting and totaled both vehicles which was over 70K he was okay but he probably cannot get auto insurance now at least not affordable insurance

Jesus.. So no matter what, at the end of the day, we're pretty much screwed over, and loose quite a bit of money even if it's the other parties fault?

Glad he can't get auto insurance/affordable one..

Go and talk to/consult a lawyer, most lawyers have free consultation, even if you don't end up having them represent you, they will tell you the proper course of action on your part.

In my state the person who at fault insurance covers you for your loss and injuries, unless they don't have insurance, all auto insurance polices here requires one to have uninsured motorist insurance coverage to cover you in case the faulty party/driver doesn't have insurance.

Exactly what I have been doing. :)

I found out yesterday that the person who hit me is insured, so I'm glad I don't have to deal with Uninsured motorist insurance coverage. That said, I'm not exactly sure how much the at fault insurance will cover me, but they did say they will take liability for everything.

That will differ from person to person, your age, and general health of your body, but it can certainly remain with you for the rest of your life if you do nothing proactively to limit such effects.

If you think that fast food and prescription meds will lead you to the promised land?--you will not have a chance at pain-free days.

But I believe (I'm not a doctor), that if you remain active, eat well, sleep well, and do great things like hot yoga and change your diet, you have a damn good chance at some days without pain.

I still have bad days of radiating pain (due to the changing weather mostly and incoming storms), but otherwise stronger than pre-injuries the other 75% of the time.

Get well soon.

1. So regardless of the other parties medical coverage limit, as long as my medical coverage under my auto policy covers my bills, then I should be okay? IE: If I have a $5k limit, but the other drivers limit is $4k, and my med bills are $4.5k, am I SOL for the $500 that the other drivers coverage cannot cover?
-Dumb question; is medical coverage under my auto policy = bodily injury? Or is medical coverage something completely different?

2. So ideally, once my passenger and I recover, we then go to my insurance company and give them medical bills, to which they go after the other drivers insurance? Or do I go straight to the other companies insurance with paper work?

3. Got it. Thanks for the heads up :)

Medical payments coverage, sometimes abbreviated Medpay, is coverage for you. Bodily injury is coverage for other people if you are fault for an accident... so that's what you will want to find out from the other person's insurance company (what their policy limits are).

Yes, this is very frustrating and I bet you starting to understand why it's important to have good insurance with the right coverage.

As a veteran, my family and I are eligible for USAA so I have good insurance with additional coverage. I think the minimum in AZ is $15/30K for coverage. That does not cover squat. You sound pretty young so you probably don't have many assets, i.e. house, cars, boats, 401k, stocks, etc. After you finish school and get a decent job sit down with a financial planner and get the right coverage. You would not believe how little it costs per month to get and extra $15k of medical or an additional $250k for liability.

You are doing the right thing by asking questions and getting some solid advice on this forum. Don't give up and good luck.

Will keep this in mind. I don't expect medication and short term doc visits will fix this, but I just don't want it to come to a point where even though I am doing what the doc recommends, it still bugs me for the rest of my life since I do have quite a ways to go...

I'll ask about what I can do to stay out of pain since your points make me quite interested in what I could do.

Sorry to hear about that..

Thanks!

Didn't even know that was a think. I'll have to look over my policy ASAP since I had the impression that bodily coverage was for me too.

Is it just as easy as calling and asking what their policy limits are.. or how would this work? Also, how would it benefit me knowing what their limit is?

After reading more and more post from other users on here, I am really understanding why it's very important to have good insurance with the right coverage. Although, I had thought allstate was good insurance, but seems like it's mediocre.

You've got that right. I'm in my early 20's.. But I will definitely keep that in mind for future sake.

Thanks! I just honestly hope I don't loose anything after all this since it's the other persons fault...

Update:

Dealing with insurance is a major headache.

But still getting treatment, and got my check to repair the truck.

I visited a few body shops for a few more estimates. They were surprised that I got the amount I got, and didn't total it. But as someone(I forgot who) pointed out in another thread, the value of damages doesn't always have to be 50% or more to make a car total loss.

So now, I'm looking for a body shop or if I can find the parts for next to nothing, I might just end up doing it myself.

I mean I don't want to say it was me....but it was me...haha (former body shop manager here)
Yes it does depend on the carrier on what percentage is considered a total loss.
Glad you did get it sorted out, and good luck with the shopping around. Main thing is make sure whatever shop you choose warrants their work for the life of the vehicle or at least as long as you own it.

Cheers!

Haha, It was very interesting to know that, since 2 of 8 or so body shops I went to so far suggested that my truck should've been totaled with the amount of damage/check I got.

Didn't even think about that. I'll have to double check with the shops I've been to so far! Thanks!
