well this sucks ...Borla

Not to revive a long dead thread, but I have replaced the exhaust hangers on my '06 XSP 4 times now. I have spoken to borla and I pretty much get no where as well. I'm trying to find metal reinforced hangers now with the hopes that it'll take care of it.
 
try this, get a piece of flat steel used for brackets, cut to size, drill oversized holes, insert rubber grommets, pop it on. no more breaking. or use a piece of old steel belted tire, or truck mudflap.

Its quite alright to revive it because believe it or not the drivers side hanger broke now too. Talked to Craig at Borla and he noticed that I've put in a few requests for exhaust hangers and took the liberty of sending me three so that Ill have some spares. Wasn't really the answer I was looking for but it was nice for him to be proactive and not just send me one when clearly I'm having issues with the system.

After dealing with this issue for the third time, I took the 4runner to a local borla installer to see what the issue was and if there was anything that could be changed to fix it. There wasn't any conclusive answer. If it happens again I think Im gonna go to a muffler shop and have them weld on something similar to stock but with a freeflow muffler and sell the borla.
 
One of my friends also has an 06 with the XSP package and had the same rubber hanger break causing one side of the borla exhaust to hang down really low. It is interesting to see that this has happened to a few other people.
 
sorry but i just dont understand what the problem is, its just a muffler hanger, not a system failure, ur gonna scrap it & pay for a whole new system? that doesnt make any sense, like i said a post or so ago, either make ur own, its very easy & works very well, or like others have said as well, get one from an auto store, one that is similar in size but is reinforced with chain inside. a super easy fix is - hold it up in place, put a wormgear clamp around the isolator, then tighten. its strong & still absorbs vibrations.

well hopefully the problems are solved.

This morning I went to replace the broken rubber hanger on the drivers side. In order to install the rubber hanger more easily, I was going to unbolt the aftermarket frame hanger from the frame rail so I could easily slide the rubber hanger on. Im the process of doing that, I snapped the bolt off.

So rather than fight with it all afternoon I took the 4runner to Jannetty's Performance in Waterbury, CT to see what they could do for my exhaust. I really wanted to keep the exhaust but I was tired of replacing rubber hangers every few months and wanted a more secure way to mount the aftermarket frame hanger.

They were able to weld on the frame mount and had some special metal reinforced rubber hangers. They said if I have any more problems and want to change the exhaust around they could easily help. Just happy to hopefully be done with that headache.
 
I replaced all of the borla hangers with the stock Toyota hangers. I too was having the issue with the crappy Borla hangers splitting. The rubber they use is way too hard while the toyota rubber is softer and can handle being torqed more. I think the hangers are relatively cheap from toyota and well worth the money to save your muffler.

Also, I'm not sure how it could have been dragging. My hanger broke the same way but the muffler was only sagging a little bit. Do you have the dual exhaust system?
 
yea, the stock toyota hangers are way better. cost about 17 bux a piece. thats what i use with a wormgear hose clamp around it.

Hey I just posted another thread about this. Yeah I know I should have done a search first. The point I was going to make is that in my experience with Borla, they were quick to respond and get my replacement part. I am just glad after paying for an expensive system, that customer service was able to resolve the problem. Try getting that quick and easy service from your cell phone provider.
 
u can use a high torgue or marine clamp if ya want, but i find the heavy duty steel ones work just as well. the stock hanger is sort of round so they fit it nicely. borla's are triangle shaped, thinner & harder so i im not sure the clamp will work as well on them. just slip it over & tighten, the rubber still absorbs the vibrations, the clamp just makes the whole thing stronger, maybe even more so than hangers with chain inside, its an old idea but is a cheap, quick, easy fix that lasts. u can always spray the clamp with rubberized under coating if ya want.
