so the family decided to go to the beach yesterday so we loaded up the runner with the chillins and the dog threw in some snack food and 100' of tow straps and off we went... went to long beach first and spent most of the day there, watched some re**** in a frontier who thought he was a BA get busted by the cops for driving on the dunes, and just being a lose cannon hallin balls down the beach. i think watching him, then noticing the cop watching him and seeing him get busted was the high point lol. anyhow yeah ended up pulling out a 2wd durango, didnt even know they made a 2wd version and those things are not light! then we went down to ft stevens, where we proceeded to watch some cop in a expedition tag the side of a new subaru trying to drive around him and up the exit road off the beach. we stayed for the sunset, and just as that was happening i look back to see some fool in a jetta about 250' onto the beach just sunk and spinning. so i go over to ask how hes doing... and offer him a tow. so i hook up to him and start to pull him back to the pavement, only problem is, he is facing the other way. so because of this, all his splash guards and belly pans are now acting like scoops and collecting half the sand on the beach, tuning this into a weighted sled truck pull, i just sink like a the girl they thought was a witch... so i unhook and am able to get out but there is no hope for the jetta, he has started over heating and puked out half his coolant. then along comes one of his(the jetta owners) buddies with a winch on his truck(a samurai) and proceeds to drag him most of the way back(once i hooked to him to be his anchor so he didnt continue to winch himself to the jetta), ripping of his belly pan, inner fender splash guard, and front air dam from all the sand his car was scooping up. then the samurais battery takes a dump and so i hook back up to him(now im able to be on the pavement) and tow him up the hill to clean firm surface. anyhow as we were winching this jetta some guy walks up to us and says "so is this an indication of what im in for?" i asked him what he had and he replies a "BMW 325xi". i told him dont even think about driving on to the beach... "oh no im already down there...." -WTF how stupid are you people!? dont drive your cars on to the beach, dont drive your heavy 2wd SUVs onto the beach especially with street tires... anyhow back to my fun and exciting beach trip. by now its like 2130(9:30pm) and its dark, no light except from the head lights. and there is a line of trucks probably about 10 or so waiting to leave the beach so we pull to the side and let them by. i told the guy in the BMW to stay down as far as he could on the beach in the firmer wet sand and get a run at it... i figured sense he was AWD, and sense BMWs have full belly pans(and sense he was going the right direction they wouldnt act like scoops...) he might stand a better chance than the vw(who completely destroyed his car, it over heated, he fried the clutch, CEL and oil lights came on.... it sounded like a diesel as he drove off, no it was not a TDI) so the BMW gives it his best shot which left him in about the same spot as the jetta(in his defense, he traveled about 3x the distance across the sand as the jetta did and the jetta was going down hill and the BMW was going up hill, and he found our ruts...). so i go down and hook on to him pull him about 2' before im sunk in my old ruts. we unhook and about this time a 94 fzj80 shows up with full factory elockers. we both tag team him and proceed to only go about 40' untill we both sink. then i remember oh yeah i have more strap under the rear seat... so i grab that and it allows the cruiser to be on the pavement(still covered by about 8" of fine sand) we give it another try and we are able to get him out...
anyhow yeah sorry about my long winded story but it was a fun day at the beach and i will post pics as soon as i resize them. we didnt get home till 0100 oh yeah and we had our 8week old with us, my wife was less than ecstatic, that was untill we got paid for pulling the BMW out...
