Went to the gun show today...

and if someone was looking to stimulate the economy I think it worked.

Holy crap... We stood in line for about 45 minutes just to get in. There were people grandstanding outside talking about the current issues and "a revolution". I saw 300% markup on all ARs/AKs. 200% markup on pistol grip shotguns. Even the handguns were inching up in price, especially those with higher capacity mags.

So I went to a local gun store after just to check it out. A S&W M&P15 Sport that usually retails just south of $700 was $3500. :scared:

Four hours later, I walked away empty handed.

Anyway, we have enough other discussions going on about firearms, 2nd amendment, Obummer, etc. I started this one to see if anyone has come across any reasonable prices/stock lately or can recommend build parts. My wife said to just get what I want and get it out of the way.

I know what you mean! I went to two local gun shops and was shocked! So much for picking up another gun or defense ammo for that matter!

The easiest way to boost gun/ammo sales is to have politicians start talking about taking them away! I wouldn't be surprised if the government gets some kind of a "kick-back" from the manufacturers as a "thank you" for the sales!

That would be great! We are contemplating another quick weekend trip out there in the Spring in case my wife needs to interview in person... of course coming through DIA with just one pistol was a major hassle last time. I can't imagine coming through with a small collection. haha

I've bought from gunbroker before and it wasn't bad. They are a bit higher than some of the other sites I've found. Gunsamerica.com seems to have some good prices.

For AR's I can't find the M&P15 Sport in stock anywhere. I found a few "cheaper" ones starting in the $1200 range, but most are in the $2-3K range, and we aren't talking high end here.

For a build I was poking around dsarms priced a few things...
$290 full upper
$290 complete lower
$150 bolt
$28 charging handle
This puts it around $760 before mags, accessories, etc, which isn't terrible considering the market. Are there other makers I should consider with similar or better pricing?

And does anyone sell AK build kits?

You mean like Spikes, DSA, etc? I tried going through S&W but even the retailer they link from their site doesn't have anything in stock.

Hmm... probably a Saiga or Century. Let me know if you find out. The one I found is in 7.62 but I probably wouldn't mind the .223 since I'll be able to use that in the AR as well, and it's usually a bit cheaper. I'm planning to order tomorrow or Tuesday... just waiting to hear back from this FFL.

Yeah ammo is getting worse by the day. Keep an eye on slickguns and fatwallet for the good buys and plan to spend $$ on bulk.

DSArms will accept orders but have a 6-8 week backlog... I guess that's worth not paying 3x-5x the price for some of the built models. I guess I can't blame opportunists, but some places have certainly lost my business, and one of those places has sold me at least half a dozen firearms in the past few years.

yeah sorry it took me a minute to get to you, yeah that's basically what i'm doing, waiting list for a m1a and another ar...hopfully either
A) this whole gun ban thing blows over and i just paid full retail for a couple of sweet rifles
B) the gun ban passes a week after both mine are complete and shipped and my 2 new guns have gone up in value instantly 3x's
C) the bill passes before my guns ship and i get fully refunded......

i think all things considered that was my best option as i'm with you no way in hell am i paying 3x's the price right now with out seeing whats going to happen first......

you also have to keep in mind, suppliers are taking a massive risk right now, so you should expect to pay a bit more , i agree 3x's as much is excessive , but there is a risk they are taking, getting stuck with a bunch of spare rifles would be a bad thing and then there's just the nature of supply and demand.....

I sincerely think that nothing will happen for 2 years, and if it's going to happen, it will then. Hopefully things calm down a bit. Ammo will be the next big crunch.

I wonder if they've given any consideration to how many guns these "threats" have put into inexperienced hands or people that would never have armed themselves otherwise...

i don't know, part of me thinks it might all be some part of some grand conspiracy with people in the government getting kicks backs from the mini-arms race we're experiencing here right now! hahaha, but that's probably nuts like most conspiracy theories, i really hope your right though, i'm hearing pretty good debates on whether it will pass or not, and my faith in the American people as a whole in regards to a thing like this is basically nil, so, yeah sure i might have been able to save a few hundred bucks but at least this way i'm getting in before the lock, and can own the rifles i want before i'm 60 years old and can't appreciate them as much...well you know what i'm saying.. haha, either way it's going to be interesting, i just hope people have some sort of spine left and some sort of sense of history or what it means to be an American......

Dirtcheap.com is your friend. I've got a Colt .223 Match Target Rifle with a heavy barrel to reach out and touch somebody and an old M19a1 for a side arm. I keep a "moderate" amount of ammo on hand at all times.

You mean CTD? They have severely marked up all of their AR products as of late too... it's a shame... I used to order from them a couple of times a year but their shipping is outrageous, stock is hit or miss, and now pricing puts it over the top for me.

I was there also, bofa. Crazy lines, crazy prices. I did pick up some ammo which wasn't too marked up. I noticed a lot of folks weren't buying from dealers (or private sellers) when prices were double or more than what they should be.
