Went to visit my bro in soCal...

...and came back with a 4Runner, baby! Well, actually I located a 4Runner in Irvine and decided to pay my bro a visit


For whatever reason, finding a 4Runner with the specs I wanted (SR5, v8, 4x4, galactic gray, sunroof) was IMPOSSIBLE to come by in northern Cal. So I searched Autotrader and found this "rare" 4R in Irvine for $29000. I was somewhat disappointed that it only came with 16" wheels, but was delighted that it came without the rear spoiler (which is just not my cup of tea). And I plan to upgrade to 18" wheels eventually anyhow.

So basically I got it for about $195 over invoice. I tried to get him down to 28500, or at least throw in some all-weather floor mats or a hood protector -- but none of it worked ...



...Oh well, whatever, I got me a 4Runner!

It's kindof weird seeing 16s on 4Rs here. In CO, you don't see a lot. Most of the dealerships there upgrade to the 17".

I've seen a few newer 4runners here in the Bay Area running the stock 16" wheels. Interestingly, they are also the ones without the spoilers as well. I've also seen this same configuration without roof racks either. It's very strange to see them without the roof racks.

yea, it's weird. It seems i've only seen SR5 v8 4WD's out here in, like, 3 flavors -- base, base+sunroof, and base+sunroof+rear spoiler -- I gladly took the sunroof without the spoiler


but yea, it kinda sucks with the 16's. I tried to get 17's out of the dealer, but they weren't having it. Besides, i love the way 18's look on the Limiteds so i'm going that route eventually...

I saw some too, but I wanna say they're rentals. I see them mostly in SF.

Hayward Toyota sells take-offs from most new cars. They love to put nasty chrome rims on their new cars, so they should have some 18's available.

Congrats on your buy! I saw some 18" with tires on EBAY right now search "4Runner wheels". If you don't end up getting those, I have a set of 17" wheels for sale!

i'm definitely going to keep it "rugged 'n' raw", i.e., 18's off-road style
I'm not into the 'flash' and chrome......just looking for some solid alloys -- any suggestions???

Browns. Drive Happy. Or GB Toyota in Glen Burnie, Anne Arundel Co. off of Richie Highway. A few thousand less than Newark Toyota World who like Price Toyota, don't deal and always give you their best price. It was worth the drive, and they have a good website www.gbtoyota.com

Btw, congrats on your purchase. May you have many useful years of pleasure from your T4R. I have 21,700 after 14 months, no issues, and am extremely pleased with the 4R. I wonder why I waited so long. Maybe because I was driving domestics (Ford Exploder and Chevy Blowzer) and didn't know what was good for me until the T4R. :driving:
